HI,
I agree we must always be considerate of the financial piece.
Therefore, I would like to suggest again for your consideration—look beyond the convention places and work with the Universities. Many of the Universities are using LMS systems such as Blackboard or Canvas. I
have seen where some Universities are offering “safety training” to non-students and non-employees through Canvas.
I think if this could be investigated and if a University that is already a member of ACS could be identified as a starting point for offering these workshops—that would be in my mind such a positive step forward
showing how ACS is supporting the integration of laboratory safety into the actual day-day, hour by hour operations of laboratories
Or can ACS offer modular workshops/training/education through their own web site?? If it is there please accept my apologies as I did not see it.
Or can ACS partner up with someone like Summit Training or eSafety (please understand I am not recommending them I am only using them as examples) Maybe ACS might be able to partner up with “companies or organizations”
that offer on line training such as Laboratory Safety Institute or Bowen EHS (again I am not recommending I am only offering these names as suggestions).
As far as cost—I would recommend that you look at associations such as the American Biological Safety Association International—they offer online education. Example cost for one of their modules –members $125
nonmember $225. Again the cost would very for the length of the workshop/ training/education.
It is my opinion that by not offering online –we are missing out on capture the people who want to have the experience but they or their employers cannot spend the money for it. I would like to offer another
idea do a survey and ask the people who would like to experience the workshop but cannot come because of cost or timing issue.
Again thank you for permitting me to share my thoughts.
Regards,
Anne

Subject: *EXT* [DCHAS-L] livestreaming CHAS workshops
Obviously this is a good idea, but doesn’t solve our problem of meeting minimum requirements unless the “off-site” registrations are numerous. Adding the additional cost of live-streaming (actually thousands of dollars when you consider
the convention charges for internet & video) will significantly increase costs and therefore the number of minimum attendees. Our main problem is people waiting until the last minute to register; we must cancel rooms at least two weeks in advance or we’ll
be charged for empty rooms.
That said, we can certainly consider live-streaming or webcast type presentations when we can meet the financial requirements… what would people be willing to pay to watch live-streaming of a presentation?

HI
I would like to offer a suggestion—please permit this workshop, and others in the future to be lived streamed so those of us who cannot go the Philadelphia (may register and pay for it) still be able to attend.
Many colleges are facing some financial challenges and are cutting back on travel—so offering it on line would be very helpful.
If you cannot live stream then record it and offer it to the individuals who could not attend for a fee.
Anything we can do to make workshop available through LMS systems is very helpful to us who do not have the resources to support travel, need to balance work and family life. In the environmental, occupational
health, and safety professions we are constantly pulled in so many directions—having LMS supported training available for us is a wonderful resource. Using LMS system may also increase the availability for individuals to step up to speak and present at the
workshops as they would not have to travel to the meeting.
Thanks for reading this,
Best Regards,
Anne
