As I read through the comments regarding this issue, I feel the need to bring a Regulatory spin into the discussion. According to 1910.132-
Hazard assessment and equipment selection.< /p>
The employer shall assess the workplace to determine i f hazards are present, or are likely to be present, which necessitate the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). If such hazards are present, or likely to be present, the employer shall:
Select, and have each affected employee use, the types of PPE that will protect the affected employee from the hazards identified in the hazard assessment;
Communicate selection decisions to each affected emplo yee; and,
Select PPE that properly fits each affected employee. Note: Non-mandatory Appendix B contains an example of procedures that would compl y with the requirement for a hazard assessment.

Note that 1910.132 does not supercede 1910.1450 (Lab Std); Indeed, they are meant to work together- the latter is performa nce – based. As in ergonomics, one should fit the task to the person, for P PE, one should match the PPE to the Task. (And then there is the Training partJ
Training.
The employer shall provide training to each employee w ho is required by this section to use PPE. Each such employee shall be trained to know at least the following:
When PPE is necessary;
What PPE is necessary;
