Thank you all for your input on the lab coat dilemma…
Here is some additional information:
It is a synthetic chemistry lab – this is a M.S. level chemist who has been in industry for 10+ years and CHOOSES not to follow th e rules. He’s got an excuse for everything. I spoke directly to h im about it numerous times, then elevated the situation to his direct supervis or. The supervisor has asked me to see what alternative options the company wou ld accept.
The lab is not too warm for the other 8 chemists working in there. This individual is a larger man. He also refuses to comply with the company’s prescription safety glasses policy (wherein the company wil l afford each scientist who wears prescription glasses a pair of prescription safety glasses).
I have scheduled a meeting today with human resources, and our safety consultant to see what type of stand management is willing to ta ke on this issue.
Thanks again for all the feedback.
Danielle

Danielle,
have
him wear an apron-the back is open so he shouldn't complain about being too
hot. Also, get a waiver from him re: you company is not responible fo
r
any damage to his clothing from a chemical spill. Thanks
Jack

Compliance
is important, however why is the area too hot where this employee works?
