Hi,
Many years ago I have witnessed one of these 5 gallon carboys that was pressurised with carbon dioxide to be saturated with water to feed a anaerobic bioreactor. The graduate student as just refilled the reservoir with water and while he was re-pressurising the reservoir it exploded. Thankfully nobody was injured but it has been a near missed one. I cannot say at was pressure but I would have been in the low psi considering the scale of the experiment.

They arrived from DWK-Kimble with precautions etched on the outside, including 'Do not evacuate or pressurize unless recommended in the current DWK Kimble catalog.' Unfortunately, the catalog does not contain any information about pressurizing or evacuating the carboys. It simply says that the carboys are "Ideal for storage and dispensing of solutions.' There are no discernible design differences between the new carboys and the older ones. I wonder if anyone on the list has experience with assessing the risk associated with gas pressure differences with this equipment?
