I'm on the Board of Advisors for a hospital clinic and when all else fails, I play the med school library card.  But I can't do that often.  Last week I got a public health bulletin from that library, all 167 pages of it, from 1935 and it had engineering data in it that is blowing the minds of some of my industrial ventilation colleagues.  It supports work they were doing on what they thought was a new idea. Twern't.  But my colleagues now have ammunition to prove they are right, and a lot of accepted theories and calculations clearly are wrong.  Change is coming.

One advantage to being at an educational institution is a strong Inter Library Loan service, so there is an extra step beyond simply following a link, but I can usually get a copy of peer reviewed papers of interest. This has been particularly important when trying to assess Covid risk and protection claims against the pre-2020 literature. There have been very few relevant reports that have made it through the peer review process since then. The technical reports have been free, but they are either press releases or yet to be peer-reviewed.

I wonder if there is ILL service available to the public facing these issues? I can't imagine managing the number of userids and passwords it would take to complete a solid literature review on Covid now...
