One advantage to being at an educational institution is a strong Inter Library Loan service, so there is an extra step beyond simply following a link, but I can usually get a copy of peer reviewed papers of interest. This has been particularly important when trying to assess Covid risk and protection claims against the pre-2020 literature. There have been very few relevant reports that have made it through the peer review process since then. The technical reports have been free, but they are either press releases or yet to be peer-reviewed.

I wonder if there is ILL service available to the public facing these issues? I can‰??t imagine managing the number of userids and passwords it would take to complete a solid literature review on Covid now...
