As described in Kirk Hunter's Chair's comment that I shared on Wednesday, the CHAS Division and ACS Committee on Chemical Safety are continuing to partner on many lab safety outreach efforts. The latest partnership is a new video describing lab ventilation concerns and how to they can be addressed by working with facility staff and academic management.

The video can now be seen at

and will soon be available on the ACS safety Youtube channel.

We have found that many lab ventilation problems lead to significant confusion between lab workers and facility and other support staff. For this reason, we are in the process of developing a set of 'tip sheets' for lab workers that address specific aspects of laboratory ventilation, such as best practices in fume hood use; managing chemical storage; and understanding the technical basis of general lab ventilation design. We are also developing a powerpoint file that provides more detail about the concepts described in the short (3 minute) video.

After you've had a chance to see the video, we'd appreciate feedback on the ideas in the video that would be most usefully addressed by the tip sheets and powerpoint file.
