SAPUTO CHEESE EVACUATED NEAR WAUPUN AFTER CHEMICAL SPILL

ALTO, Wis. (WMTV)-- Two people were taken to a hospital after a chemical spill at Saputo Cheese USA, Inc. in Alto. The town is five miles north of Waupun.
According to Alto Fire Chief Cory Kok, the chemical spill was reported at 7:40 a.m. Thursday. He said an employee was filling a chlorine cylinder, and it began leaking chlorine. The cause of the leak is unknown.
Kok said the cylinder stopped leaking, but there are concerns about chlorine gas in the building. Around 11:30 a.m. Thursday, he said they were starting the process of ventilating the building.
A Hazardous Materials team from the Fond Du Lac Fire Department assisted as well as units from Waupun Fire Department.

A metal tank exploded and launched into the sky Wednesday after a raging fire engulfed a chemical factory in Istanbul, sending bystanders fleeing for cover and reportedly injuring two firefighters battling the blaze.
The billowing black smoke from the fire gave way to a trail of white as the tank and metal debris shot above the factory, video from Turkish broadcaster Haber Global showed.
The falling debris appeared to land on a car parked across the street as panicked onlookers dashed from the scene.
Two firefighters were injured in the blast, according to Turkish pro-government outlet the Daily Sabah. One was taken to a hospital while the other was treated at the scene.

Mumbai: A gas leakage was reported at several locations in the eastern suburbs of Mumbai on Thursday triggering panic among local residents who complained of foul smell and called the Fire Brigade officials for help. However, no untoward incident was reported due to the gas leakage, which has now been fully contained.
The gas leakage was reported from several areas including Powai, Chembur, Mankhurd in the eastern Mumbai.
It was later found that the gas leakage started at the Rashtriya Chemical Fertiliser plant in Chembur.
Several users from Mumbai took to Twiter and complained of a very strong nauseating typical gas chemical smell throughout Parle West and other areas. Responding to it, Mumbai Police directed them to address their grievances to Thane Rural Police on their control room contact no. 02225342784.

Ladysmith Fire Rescue responded to a chlorine leak at the water filtration plant Tuesday, September 17.
The leak was contained within the plant. No injuries or illnesses were reported from the leak. Fire rescue was called to go in to the building and shut off the valve to stem the flow of chlorine. Workers were conducting routine maintenance when the leak occurred.
‰??We had to go in with our hazmat suits and shut it down,‰?? Fire Chief Ray Delcourt said. ‰??Our role is to go in there and shut the valves off, or close off the leak, that was our duty to go in there.‰??
Ladysmith Fire Rescue contained the leak within three hours. Trails around the water filtration plant were closed to minimize risks to public health from the leak, and the worksite was evacuated. Trails in the area are now open and safe to use.

The Texas City Fire Department on Tuesday responded to a fire at the Ashland chemical plant, the city's emergency management department said.
The department in a Facebook described the incident as a transformer fire. The plant is at the 4500 block of Attwater Avenue in Texas City.
There were no reported injuries and there are no threats to the community, according to the department.
The fire was contained quickly, said Tom Munoz, Texas City's emergency manager.
"It's nothing major, no injuries," Munoz said.
It's not clear what caused the fire, he said. The chemical plant's fire department was the first to respond and received extra help from the Texas City Fire Department.
The departments allowed some 4,000 gallons of mineral oil to burn off from the transformer plant, Munoz said. The oil is used as an insulator inside transformers. When mineral oil burns, it produces a dark smoke, which could be seen from roads near the plant on Tuesday.

DELHI TOWNSHIP, MI (WILX) -- Fire investigators say a natural gas leak caused a house explosion last week in Holt.
A fire investigator looks at the carnage of a house that exploded last week in Holt (source, WILX).
But they still don't know what caused the leak.
"Its just really scary you know? It is a very nice, quiet neighborhood," neighbor Robin Ostrowski told News 10. "We don't usually have police, fire and stuff down in here."
When firefighters showed up late Wednesday night, half the house was gone, which made it even harder to figure out what happened.
"Preliminarily, we're looking at the basement as where the gas leak started," Delhi Twp. Fire Chief Brian Ball said. "But again, because of the amount of destruction - we're trying to figure out exactly where was it? Was it the furnace, the water heater or what."

Apotential carcinogen found in menthol- and mint-flavored e-cigarettes exceeds levels considered safe, according to an analysis conducted by Duke Health.
The chemical ‰?? known as pulegone (and pronounced pju-leh-goan) ‰?? was banned as a food additive last year by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration due to its carcinogenic properties. The FDA does not regulate pulegone's presence in e-cigarettes and smokeless tobacco.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention previously found substantial amounts of pulegone in e-cigarettes.
