We have had amazing experiences with both hearing impaired students and Hearing impaired teaching assistants. We have a talented group of interrupters that have
assisted us and I am not fluent in ASL or ESL but was able to communicate with Teaching assist in fact we sort of had our own language. The students both hearing and hard of hearing responded very favorability . As indicated above the success was not only
the willingness of our department to work with disability services on campuses but the fact that we had amazing interrupters that many of whom had worked with both the hearing impaired TA and hearing impaired students from high school.

Subject: [DCHAS-L] Deaf/Hearing Impaired Chemistry Instructor question
Hi,
I am checking in to see if any of you all might be willing to share experiences and/or policies and precedents for a deaf or hearing impaired teaching assistant working in Chemistry lab instruction.
Any and all contributions will be so appreciated,
Thanks,
