AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (WXYZ) ‰?? The thick black smoke coming from the plastics company in Auburn Hills could be seen for miles Tuesday morning.

Massive fire breaks out at plastics manufacturing facility in Auburn Hills
"Seeing that smoke, I was like wow! That is incredible," said retired Troy Fire Lieutenant Tonya Perry who saw the smoke in Troy and came to see her former colleagues joining firefighters from Auburn Hills in battling the blaze that started outside US Farathane located near University Drive and I-75.

The fire started at 10:22 a.m. and according to the National Weather Service, the smoke leveled off at about 3,500 feet in the air.

Additional firefighters and resources arrived from Waterford Regional, Rochester Hills, City of Rochester, and Oakland Township.

Auburn Hills Fire Chief Ellen Taylor said plastic and metal auto part containers that had been stored outside on the south side of the building caught fire. A drone from the City of Rochester was used to help locate and extinguish hot spots that remained after most of the fire was out.

Two men were detained Tuesday night after the smell of the methamphetamine they were said to be smoking prompted a partial evacuation and hazardous materials response at the Chumash Casino Resort.

Responding around 3:40 p.m. to reports of a "hazardous situation" at the casino's hotel, Santa Barbara County Fire spokesman Mike Eliason said Chumash security staff evacuated the ninth floor after guests complained of a strong chemical smell. According to Eliason, hotel security discovered tampered smoke detectors sealed off with plastic after making entry into the room.

Santa Barbara County sheriff's spokeswoman Kelly Hoover said there was no indication that the room was being used as a drug lab but, rather, that drug activity was occurring in the hotel room.

"Right now, we think it was probably used in a party setting, and the plastic on the smoke detector was so that whatever they may have been smoking wouldn't set off the alarm," Eliason added.

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology chemical engineering Professor Md Ali Ahmmad Shoukat Choudhury on Tuesday said that the fire at old Dhaka‰??s Chawk Bazar originated from chemical explosion in the first floor of Wahed Mansion.
‰??We have seen that the wall of the first floor collapsed and the beam there sustained more damage than other places,‰?? the chemical engineering expert, who along with his another colleague, visited the spot told New Age in the evening.
‰??The structural damage proves that it was a ‰??chemical vapour explosion‰??,‰?? he said.
He found that the perfume cans, stored on the first floor of Wahed Mansion, was found far away, which further proves that it was a ‰??chemical vapour cloud explosion‰??.
The chemical engineering expert said that this was no gas cylinder explosion, as claimed by many local traders.

LAS CRUCES, NM (KTSM) - Four employees at a Las Cruces pecan plant were sent to the hospital after they were overcome by carbon monoxide fumes early Sunday morning.

According to a news release, firefighters responded at about 5 a.m. to a hazardous material call at the facility located at 2455 Entrada del Sol.

Officials say two of the employees were unable to move on their own before first responders evacuated them from the building.

A total of six workers were affected by the fumes.

According to the release, firefighters determined that the employees' symptoms were a result of two gas-powered pressure washers that were used inside the enclosed building, which resulted in a buildup of carbon monoxide.

The fire department's hazmat crew cleared the air inside the plant and removed the pressure washers.

Bella Vista Mayor Peter Christie announced that a $20 million funding bill had been filed by Senators Jim Hendren and Bart Hester, with additional legislators, to help with the Trafalgar Road Fire, known as the "Stump Dump."

The funding would come from the "Hazardous Substance Action Fund," and the appropriated funds are to be used for "waste cleanup."

Christie said that the spoke to Senator Hendren and was informed that the governor supported this bill.

According to Christie, with this money, the ADEQ should have enough to put out the fire, based on previous cost estimates from January 2019. The city of Bella Vista will also give $1.5 million to assist with the cost of cleanup.

On Monday, at the request of the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality, hazmat technicians from the National Guard also arrived in Bella Vista to monitor air quality at the site.

MIDVALE, Utah (ABC4 News) - Utah's first responders have dealt with four explosions in three weeks.
The explosions killed one man and injured several other.

The first explosion happened on February 15th in Wasatch County.

Wasatch County Fire spokesperson Janet Carson told ABC4 News, a mother and her four children arrived at their family cabin on Lake Pines Drive and smelled gas. Carson said the mother left the kids in the car and went into the cabin to investigate when it exploded. She was seriously injured.

One day later, crews rushed up Little Cottonwood Canyon after an explosion at an apartment complex between Alta and Snowbird Ski Resorts. Crews say no one was injured and the explosion remains under investigation.

A Tesla owner was killed in a fiery crash in Davie, Florida, Sunday afternoon and a day later local emergency officials were still contending with the car‰??s damaged lithium-ion battery pack that repeatedly reignited while sitting in a towing yard.

The man who died in the accident, Omar Awan, was driving on South Flamingo Road in Davie (which is north of Miami and adjacent to Fort Lauderdale) at about 4:30 pm local time when his 2016 Model S sedan veered off the road for an unknown reason, police spokesman Sergeant Mark Leone told Forbes. Awan then appears to have overcorrected the steering and lost control of the car, sending it across three lanes of traffic before it crashed into trees in the median, Leone said.

The car was engulfed in flames, leaving Awan‰??s body ‰??burned beyond recognition‰?? when it was finally removed from the car. Investigators don‰??t yet know whether the accident occurred due to a technical flaw in the car or if Awan experienced a health issue prior to losing control of the car, Leone said.
