SOP is not the same as a Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).

An SOP describes how a process is to be implemented and may, or may not, include relevant safety procedures. In some styles of SOP, the safety procedures are in a separate document, sometimes called a Safe Job Procedure.

A JHA is a detailed analysis and ranking of the hazards that may be associated with a specific job or procedure. It may, or may not, extend to how those hazards CAN be controlled but usually does not extend to the decision on how they WILL be controlled or eliminated.

Would that not be an SOP?

I wonder if anyone on the list had developed a model Job Hazard Analysis for a laboratory scale chemical procedure that they use as a teaching tool for either the research or undergraduate laboratory audience? I'm working on a project that could benefit from reviewing several of these to identify best practices in writing JHA's. If you have one that you're developed or have seen one that impressed you, I'd appreciate a pointer in that direction.

Thanks for any help with this.
