Harry, James, and Paul,My daaughter is deaf and otherwise diasbled She is a science teacher and a quite good chemist, nonetheless. She needs a service dog for hearing and mobility.Other's who need service animals have vision impairment, and some dogs can be trained to detect the early signs of seizures in those wh have seizure disorders.Would you tell Stephen Hawkins he couldn't visit your establishment? Who's ever done more for science? There all kinds of ways to do "reasonable accomodation" under ADA and ways for disabled students to learn about chemistry. Be innovative.I'm going to forward this to my daughter (in spite of which she holds 2 Masters Degrees) and ask her for input.Alan--- This e-mail is from DCHAS-L, the e-mail list of the ACS Division of Chemical Health and Safety.
