Chemical Hygiene/Radiation Safety Officer (CHO/RSO)
Carleton College is seeking a Chemical Hygiene/Radiation Safety Officer. This position will work under the direction of the Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Manager and in collaboration with College leadership, faculty, and staff to improve the campus safety culture and promote injury prevention efforts.
In coordination with the EH&S Manager, this position is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring campus environmental and safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and to ensure a safe workplace. Areas of responsibility include hazardous materials control, emergency preparedness, fire protection, radiological safety, accident prevention, air and water quality, and other EH&S programs and policies; or provides technical support for these programs. The CHO/RSO applies professional knowledge or expertise and serves as lead person on chemical and radiation safety (including laser safety) issues across campus.
This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) 12-month position, eligible for the full benefits package.
The successful candidate must possess a master’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, industrial hygiene or environmental science field, and/or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience in safety management, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, or public health. Three to five years of relevant experience.
