Organizer: Ralph Stuart, Keene State College, Ralph.Stuart**At_Symbol_Here**keene.edu
Co-presenter: Ellen Sweet, Cornell University
Employers, government agencies and educators recognize that chemistry students and other laboratory workers must acquire the necessary knowledge and skills required to identify hazards and assess chemical risks in the laboratory environment. This workshop will introduce and demonstrate two well-known tools ‰?? control banding and job hazard analysis ‰?? that can be used to introduce the concepts of hazard identification and risk assessment to students and researchers. Using the ACS document "Identifying and Evaluating Hazards in Research Laboratories" as guidance, this workshop will review the conceptual basis of these methods and provide practical examples of how they can be used in the academic setting. It will also discuss the limits of these methods and discuss when other tools in the ACS document are more appropriately used. The organizer of this workshop is a Certified Industrial Hygienist and Certified Chemical Hygiene Officer. A certificate will be issued for the com!
pletion of the workshop from the ACS Division of Chemical Health and Safety. The fee for the workshop is $150.
