For our CHO program we require our students to take a Survey of IH/HAZWOPER
course, however, the OSHA lab standard does not specifically call for it, or
require it, of a CHO. The Lab Standard is quite vague on this.

I have sent you a private message with more thoughts on this and my personal
interpretations of the Lab Standard, the HAZWOPER Standard and the Hazardous
Waste standards in regards to what is required of a CHO.

I would be interested in knowing what level of hazardous waste training
people have who are responsible for chemical hygiene at their schools. It
is not clear to me what level OSHA would require in order to respond to
potential releases in labs, stockrooms, etc. I would mention that I would
not anticipate major releases at our level of operations.
