TWO KILLED IN CHEMICAL FACTORY EXPLOSION

Two persons were killed and seven others injured in an explosion at a chemical factory at Ambernath in the district today, officials said.
The mishap occurred around 1:30 pm, triggering a major fire at the unit, they said.
According to a Disaster Control official, the owner of the unit, located in the industrial area, identified as S Narayan was one of the victims.
Fire was contained after five hours by around twelve fire engines, he said.

A collision involving a Provo police car and a semi-truck Tuesday morning spilled flammable liquid and prompted the temporary evacuation of a downtown Provo park.
At the same time, a Sherman-Williams paint truck was heading east on Center Street. The police car had its lights and sirens on, but the truck driver didn?t see the police car and the two vehicles collided.
The truck was carrying highly flammable paint and acetone, about a gallon of which leaked out onto the ground.

A CHEMICAL leak at the newly commissioned Runcorn energy from waste plant which led to 17 employees being treated in hospital is now under investigation.
An internal inquiry is being carried out and the Health and Safety Executive is examining how the the spillage of hydrated lime powder which is deemed an irritant to eyes and skin happened.
One worker who had an underlying health condition was taken to Warrington Hospital by ambulance.
Sixteen other casualties admitted themselves, causing a lock down of the hospital?s accident and emergency department as staff dealt with the decontamination.
Fifteen of the workers, employed by Keppel Seghers, the principal contractor, returned to the site hours after being treated.

FLAGSTAFF, AZ (CBS5) -
Students in a Flagstaff High School chemistry class are OK after an experiment produced an unexpected powder that forced a classroom evacuation, fire officials said.
Around 11 a.m. Monday, the class was performing a test with 95 percent alcohol when it produced a powder "out of the hood system and taken to be chemical reaction," fire authorities said in a statement.
Firefighters said none of the students or faculty showed any adverse symptoms.
Team members mounted a hazardous material response and wore special protective gear. They entered the classroom, monitored the surroundings and obtained samples of the unknown product.
After analyzing it, team members determined the product was an inert extinguishing agent.
Investigators said that the chemical hood system functioned properly, delivering an extinguishing agent.
Firefighters concluded that there were no hazardous materials released from the incident.
Flagstaff High School personnel informed the parents of all students about the incident.

UPDATED 6:32pm: Work has resumed at the Waterview Connection site in Auckland following this morning's chemical spill.
Emergency services swooped on the Mt Albert construction site after a forklift pierced a barrel of hydrochloric acid, spilling almost 800 litres of the chemical.
Cordons have been lifted and residents are able to return to their homes in the Auckland suburbs of Blockhouse Bay and New Windsor after a chemical spill this morning.
A drum of hydrochloric acid was punctured by a forklift at the Waterview Tunnel construction site, spilling more than 800 litres of the chemical.
Fire Service shift manager Scott Osmond says crews are still at the scene assisting with the clean up, but there are no longer any health risks outside the site.
No panic needed
