The propane camping burners give a fairly yellow flame that could obscure the test results. I would suggest using portable tanks/torches for plumbing soldering, The flame burns at higher temperature with clearly distinguishable reductive and oxidative zones. Home Depot, Ace etc. are a good source.

I would check local codes whether using open flame is allowed in temporary structures. Also, please check a recent discussion thread in this group about hazards and incidents involving use of flammable solvents in these tests.

I work  in a charter high school and we are in a temporary school building with out any gas connection in the lab.

I would like to know is it ok to use propane camping burners for labs involving flames.(flame test).Any legal issues??

I had used small portable burners in the past ,but it is running out quick. Any help appreciated.
