This is criteria that has been applied in one of our buildings. This is
about 10 years old, but was developed based on criteria of the faculty who
would be occupying the space, all in the basement.
According to XXXXXX (proj. manager from DPM), the following guidelines
were used for Clark Center:
- Floor Loading: 100 psf in lab
- Vibration Criteria for Suspended Slab: 1800 mips (micro-inches per
second) (For the 400 power microscope)
- Vibration Criteria for Slab on Grade: 500 mips
- Vibration Criteria for Basement Slab on Grade: 125 mips
The criteria came directly from the faculty of the labs with the
assumption that vibration tables will be used.

Any of you know the vibration criteria used in their building? Depending
on the type of research, for example, if you are using laser or vibration
sensitive equipment, which vibration criteria has been chosen?
And more importantly, why is this level have been chosen? Is it better,
regarding you experience, to have a building with low-level of vibration
or to buy a better optic table (cost vs effectiveness)
