Bob,  I doubt it.  In 1952, during our Freshman course in Qualitative Analysis at Lowell Tech (now U Mass-Lowell), a hydrogen sulfide generator was set up in one of the lab hoods.  Hoods in those days were a joke!  We inhaled the gas during our 4 hour labs, often resulting in headaches.  We lived through the course, luckily.  Of course OSHAhad not yet been created.  We often long for "the good old days" when beercost 25 cents/can, but I gladly supported OSHA for making chem labs much safer.  Best regards,  Al Denio, PhD
