DIVISION DUES FOR 2010
The Executive Committee of the Division of Chemical Health and Safety has approved our dues and cost of the Journal of Chemical Health & Safety for 2010. This email is to explain to our members what those costs are and to provide some insight into what your dues pay for.
First, as a member of the Division, you receive:
· Access to JCHAS online and the complete archive of JCHAS content
· Access to the CHAS List Server and the ability to query all of the experts who willingly respond to chemical safety questions
· Your personal subscription to JCHAS
· Member discounts for Division workshops
· Access to the Executive Committee to assist with both ACS questions and one on one chemical safety assistance
· And much more …
Dues for 2010
When you receive your ACS dues invoice for 2010, the Division portion will be as follows:
Division Dues $10, the same as 2009, for a regular ACS and Division member
Division or Society Affiliate $40, this was increased as a result of changes ACS made to these membership levels.
Student – both undergraduate and graduate $1, the same as 2009
ACS Emeritus Members – no cost to continue as a member of the Division. CHAS is fortunate to have a number of Emeritus Members who remain active within both ACS and the Division. We all benefit from their knowledge and experience. It is an honor to extend the benefits of membership to them.
JCHAS Subscription for 2010
Elsevier, the publisher of JCHAS has increased our cost modestly, so we have increased the cost of JCHAS to $32 for 2010, which is a $1 increase over 2009. This rate applies to everyone, except our Emeritus Members.
We are providing a subscription to JCHAS to each of our Emeritus Members at no cost in recognition of their contributions and achievements.
Division Expenses
All of the cost of your subscription to JCHAS is used to pay for its publication. The Division makes no profit on the publication.
All of your dues cover the costs of operating the Division. All of the Officers and Executive Committee are volunteers and receive no compensation for their hard work. A small portion of their expenses to attend National Meetings and other required activities is reimbursed by the Division. For example, the Executive Committee receives reimbursement for their travel expenses to National Meetings and one night lodging and meals. Registration for the meeting and all other meeting expenses are not reimbursed. About 90% of our dues income is used to cover these direct expenses. The remainder covers incidental business expenses incurred to provide the level of service offered to ACS and Division Members.
Thank you for your continued support of CHAS. If you want more information on dues or finances, please contact me directly.
