>Does anyone have any info on how well these thermometers from VWR work? The company that I run now sells a similar product and we've had no complaints or inquiries from customers: Disclaimer: the following link is to our company's web site: http://www.safetyemporium.com/ILPI_Site/WebPagesUS/lab/thermometers.htm Chemglass Life Sciences (formerly just plain "Chemglass") has a MS Word file on their web site that discusses how to reunite separated mercury and organic liquid columns in these thermometers: http://www.chemglass.com/pages/pdf/tech/ReunitingSeparatedMercuryColumns.d oc Best regards, Rob Toreki === Date: February 24, 2009 10:42:40 AM EST (CA) Subject: RE: [DCHAS-L] Enviro-Safe(r) Liquid-Filled Thermometer My experience with these thermometers is that they work ok for aqueous applications, but not well at all for boiling/ melting point determinations for temperatures over 100 Celsius. The liquid will separate in the in column if they are left horizontally in drawers - in fact it is recommended that they be stored at an angle to help prevent the liquid from separating in the column. We recertify them annually and have had a very low replacement rate. They are sturdy and accurate. As for separation, I am unaware of any notable issues with this. I hope this is helpful. Judy
