Dr. Young is not right. Toxnet is a mixture of peer reviewed and not 
peer reviewed but relevant information and databases. It is a very 
important and reliable information source. Patty is one of many a useful 
classic publication in many editions - but not quite up to date!

Specifically, RTECS may be somewhat obsolete now but when the first 
paper version from NIOSH came out for more than 30 years ago, it was 
almost the only collective available information source on e.g. LD50's 
and EDs. It was e.g. much used at that time for background information 
by the EC Working group to classification of dangerous chemicals 
(67-Directive).

I visited and meet with the Editor: Herbert E. Christensen (Danish 
origin!) several times in the late 70s and early 80s. His intentions 
with this publication (and later a data registry for UNEP) was to 
provide all available information "untouched"; that was without 
peer-review and censorship but with references. It was the most 
scientific and unbiased way!
