For starters, I hope he'll be working in a perchloric acid hood. If not,

he shouldn't be heating perchloric acid to fumes, period.

A chemist seeks to heat perchloric acid solution until it fumes and 

seeks a scrubber to protect the hood he wants to do this in under 

temperatures that exceed what Teflon-based equipment is good for.
