Here is the statistical breakdown of the DCHAS-L survey results, along with a short demographic analysis of the list membership. Thanks to everyone who participated. - Ralph SURVEY RESULTS Total responses = 75 Total DCHAS-L readership = 1166 individual, 26 digest, 258 nomail Total DCHAS membership = 1450 Overall list rating 3.99 out of 5 Traffic level About right 64 Too little 11 Topic areas Lab safety 44 yes, 1 no Pilot plant 15 yes, 4 no Industrial 21 yes, 3 no Other safety 7 yes, 1 no Job postings 13 yes, 4 no CHAS News 21 yes ACS news 5 yes, 8 no Membership news 6 yes 5 no Other topics 2 yes Open membership Yes 35 No answer 12 No 28 Many "yes's" suggested that membership be opened only to other organizations, particularly AIHA. Many people were concerned about an increase in the "noise" leve of the list. I intend to control this through the moderation process. SELECTED COMMENTS * I think a list of members (with areas of specialty) would be valuable for those agreeable. * Lab safety often has very inexperienced folks writing and responding to messages, with predictable outcomes. CHAS-L should strive to elevate the level of thinking and quality of discussions. * More information on hygiene qualifications, on-line educational opportunities etc * One of the latest emails (a short tutorial) on the international standards for MSDSs was of great interest to me. Occasionally, such a tutorial on issues of common interest would be a good idea. ACS news should be limited to that which directly concerns the Division. * I am retired now, but have been able to share information with others. Always with the statement - see this is what ACS Division membership can do for you. * It is interesting to see what problems other CHOs etc. have to deal with. * Informative subject lines are helpful - lets one know if the e-mail is something to be read immediately or later if time permits. * I find the information very useful. The experience of the members along with practical application is very valuable. * Don't want the traffic to get to busy or I'll have to unsubscribe. * Question: What is the Chemical Safety Committee within ACS? It seems to duplicate the mission of Div. of CHAS. * As a fairly new person in the safety field, I appreciate the ability to have easy access to a group of people with a broader range of knowledge and experience, so I for one thank you for the time and effort to keep such a list up and running.
