Subject: Re: Venting flammable storage cabinets
Comments: To: Yung Morgan

NFPA recommends AGAINST venting them....the theory is that such cabinets are rated to keep the contents safe from a fire outside the cabinet. I believe people who favor venting are doing so for vapor control, yet, unless you have rigid piping for venting, the cabinet may be compromised for flammability protection. -Stefan Wawzyniecki UConn -----Original Message----- From: DCHAS-L Discussion List [mailto:DCHAS-L**At_Symbol_Here**LIST.UVM.EDU] On Behalf Of Yung Morgan Sent: Friday, May 19, 2006 10:21 AM To: DCHAS-L**At_Symbol_Here**LIST.UVM.EDU Subject: [DCHAS-L] Venting flammable storage cabinets Dear members, What is your opinion or experience with venting flammable storage cabinets? Our local fire department seems to be against the idea as it may compromise the integrity of the cabinets. The design architects seem to agree with the fire dept. As a former lab worker, with a lot of lab and cabinet inspections to contend with, I am in favor of venting the cabinets to prevent odor from spills and or possible leaks of odoriferous compounds. Your opinion will be appreciated and the resulting comments posted for the list serve members. Thank you in advance for your help.
