Our Policy is "You MUST wear a lab coat when WORKING in any of the labs". This coat will not leave the lab unless for laundering. If you are simply in a lab to gather information, then a lab coat is not necessary. We have separate hooks for street close and lab coats as not to create cross contamination. Safety glasses are only required as per our risk assessment. -----Original Message----- From: DCHAS-L Discussion List [mailto:DCHAS-L**At_Symbol_Here**LIST.UVM.EDU]On Behalf Of Renee Eshcoff Sent: December 14, 2004 4:34 AM To: DCHAS-L**At_Symbol_Here**LIST.UVM.EDU Subject: Lab Coats for Chemistry Dept.? Hello everyone! I am trying to find out if the common practice for Chemistry PI's is to wear lab coats (during lab, research, and any other time they are working with/around chemicals), per their Hazard Assessments? What about for Chemistry students? Is it required that they wear lab coats for the same? Thanks for any information you can provide. Renee A. Eshcoff, CHMM Environmental Health & Safety Mgr.
