How about other resources when the MSDS is not enough. Many of the MSDSs I work with only list N/A in many of the catagories. How hoods and other safety equipment work, and how to tell if they are working correctly; maintanence and (minor) repair of such equipment; replacement filters, types, etc. How to read spec sheets for equipment used in the lab. Calibration of gas monitors. Clean room techniques. Classes of clean rooms. What NOT to wear or take into the lab, e.g. sandals (my personal pet peeve), food, sodas, water; sleeve issues; hair issues. Storage and disposal of chemicals. How to keep track of what you've got. How to turn a very hazardous substance into a less hazardous one. How to find out if you don't know. There is a lot to know, and you can't teach it all in detail, but an awareness of these issues is important.
