A spill of an unknown chemical occurred on the morning of June 1 at the Glenn County Transfer Station located on County Road 33 in Artois.
‰??The spill was encountered when a residential garbage bin was offloaded from a Waste Management truck at the sorting building,‰?? read a release issued by the Glenn County Board of Supervisors. ‰??An employee identified multiple liquid chemicals that had combined and created some mild bubbling and off gassing.‰??
Officials said about one gallon of an unknown chemical was released onto the Transfer Station Tipping Floor and water was not involved.
According to the release, the employee immediately notified management at Glenn County Public Works who called 911 to report the spill at 9:45 a.m. Artois Fire was dispatched to the scene. After an assessment of the scene, Artois Fire officials determined that the chemical was contained at the site.
The five staff members that were on site were evacuated and the site was closed.

A district court handed state railway firm VR an 80,000 euro fine linked to a tanker derailment accident, resulting in the spillage of tonnes of the fuel additive MTBE.
The District Court of South Savo found the firm responsible for aggravated environmental damage in the incident that took place in the municipality of MÌ?ntyharju in the spring of 2018.
MTBE, or methyl tertiary-butyl ether, is a flammable, volatile and colourless liquid chiefly used as a petrol additive that among other things reduces emissions in combustion engines.
VR previously acknowledged in a written statement that the VR Transpoint logistics division ‰?? which was operating as a separate entity ‰?? was responsible for the offence.
In its decision, the court said the accident caused significant environmental pollution, a danger to public health and harmful changes to the environment. The pollution caused by the spill was also considered to be widespread and long-lasting.

Three workers who fell unconscious inside a chemical tanker that they were cleaning in Kheda on Tuesday were rescued by firefighters.
According to fire officials, the incident occurred in Alka Barrel Chemicals Private Limited in Kajipura of Kheda on Tuesday afternoon when six workers entered a chemical tanker to clean the wastage sludge residue inside the tank. Out of the six workers, three fell unconscious in the tanker due to toxic gases in it. The six workers have been identified as Suresh Baria, Dhanjibhai Ramanbhai, Maksudbhai, Shakirbhai, Babubhai and Kalidas.
‰??A distress call was made to fire safety officials regarding three workers-Sureshbhai, Dhanjibhai, Maksudbhai-falling unconscious inside the tanker. A team used ropes to evacuate them,‰?? said a Fire Safety Department official.

The deaths of 13 fire fighters - the highest fatalities in a single fire incident - while tackling the blaze and explosions at the Sitakundu BM Container Depot, was due to the lack of proper information and also the wrong way of operating, officials said on Tuesday.
According to an official, 150 fire fighters were trained in Singapore, Malaysia and Australia on how to douse chemical fires and identifying chemicals in case of such a fire and have special equipment and chemical protection suits. Skilled fire fighters would not go so near a chemical fire, the official said.
The members of this team are stationed at the headquarters and divisional cities. As per the procedure, the fire fighters begin extinguishing the blaze if it is a normal fire. In the case of a chemical fire, the specially-trained hazmat (hazardous materials) unit would go with protective jackets.
But none of these 11 trained personnel of the hazmat unit in Agrabad, Chattogram went to Sitakunda industrial area or at Kumira Fire Station, the nearby fire station.

The Regina Fire and Protective Services (RFPS) responded to a report of a ‰??major gas leak‰?? in one of Regina‰??s core neighbourhoods.
Just after 12 p.m., on Monday, the Regina Fire Hazmat Team was called to an address on the 1600 block of 5th Ave. in response to the gas leak, according to an early afternoon tweet.
There was no physical fire, but emergency personnel worked to ventilate the building and monitor air quality.
There was no mention of injuries, and RFPS described ‰??no risk‰?? to the surrounding residential area.
SaskEnergy was reported as being at the scene of the leak.

Colorado has become the first US state to ban per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in products used in drilling for oil and gas.
A measure signed by Gov. Jared Polis (D) June 3 prohibits the sale or distribution of fluids used in hydraulic fracturing, drilling fluids, and proppants‰??materials injected to keep geologic fractures open‰??that contain PFAS. The law also bans a number of other items when they contain intentionally added PFAS: cosmetics; food packaging; carpets and rugs; upholstered furniture; and products, including car seats, designed for children under age 12.
The ban takes effect Jan. 1, 2024.
PFAS are highly persistent industrial chemicals that are widely used in a variety of applications to provide stain and water resistance. These sturdy molecules also resist heat and other adverse conditions without breaking down. Some PFAS are toxic, linked to liver and kidney damage.
In addition, PFAS taint drinking water supplies across the world. They are found in the blood of almost all US residents.
