A 1996 Freightliner went off Highway 36 east of Cameron, and hit a guard rail and bridge railing, causing the vehicle to catch fire.
The driver, 69-year-old Richard Taylor of Kansas City, Kansas was taken to Cameron Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.
The crash happened late Friday night two miles east of Cameron as the truck was eastbound on Highway 36 when it went off the right side of the road and struck a guard and bridge railing, then jackknifed. The fuel tank was torn open upon impact and the vehicle became fully engulfed in fire.
The truck was demolished and the report indicated Taylor was wearing a seat belt.

'REDUNDANT CHEMICALS' SET TO BE DISPOSED OF AT SELLAFIELD THIS WEEKEND
https://www.timesandstar.co.uk/news/20172319.redundant-chemicals-set-disposed-sellafield-weekend/
Tags: United_Kingdom, industrial, discovery, environmental, waste
DISPOSAL of redundant chemicals will take place at Sellafield this weekend.
The activity is pre-planned and is part of Sellafield Ltd‰??s redundant chemicals disposal programme.
Specialist disposals experts will carry out the work, alongside the Sellafield Ltd remediation team.
The activity will take place behind a cordon in the centre of the Sellafield site. The work is unlikely to be seen or heard from outside the site.
Glenn McCracken, head of site remediation for Sellafield Ltd, said: ‰??This work is part of our long-term disposal programme for redundant chemicals stored on our site.
‰??It‰??s important that we proactively manage these chemicals and dispose of them before they become unsafe.
‰??We‰??ve chosen the safest disposal method for each chemical identified as requiring disposal. Our regulators are aware and are satisfied our approach is appropriate.‰??
This weekend‰??s work is the first of three planned disposals.
Sellafield‰??s chemicals disposal programme was established following identification of a number of unsafe chemicals in 2017.
A subsequent audit found approximately 8,000 chemicals required disposal. A dedicated packing and disposal facility was established on the site last year to support the process.
The work covers chemicals with a known disposal route, those which require repackaging for disposal, and problematic chemicals which require investigation, analysis, and inspection.

SINGAPORE - About 20 people were evacuated as a precautionary measure after chlorine gas was detected in a rubbish compactor room in Sembawang on Saturday (May 28).
Firefighters were deployed to the Nordcom II building at 2 Gambas Crescent, after the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) received a call for assistance at about 7.15am.
Upon arrival, the SCDF found the presence of chlorine gas within a rubbish compactor room on the ground floor of the industrial building.
Firefighters used a water jet to dilute the vapours surrounding the room. Two blower fans were also deployed to contain the vapours within it.
The air concentration outside the affected room remained at a safe level, SCDF said in a Facebook post at 10.10am.
As a precautionary measure, about 20 people were evacuated from the premises.

GETTING A GRIP ON MICROPLASTICS‰?? RISKS
https://cen.acs.org/biological-chemistry/toxicology/Microplastics-health-risk-toxicology-particle-characterization-nanomaterials/100/i19
Tags: laboratory, discovery, environmental, plastics
Tiny plastic particles less than 5 mm in diameter are popping up nearly everywhere scientists look. They are in water, food, and air, as well as in human blood, lung tissue, and stool. But it is unclear whether micro- and nanosized plastics pose any risks to human health or the environment. Researchers are starting to investigate sources of microplastics. They are also exploring how the particles affect human cells in test systems that mimic digestion and inhalation. But microplastics are complex mixtures with different shapes, sizes, and chemistries, making them difficult to study. Because of limited exposure data, regulators are struggling to understand the risks. The situation is reminiscent of the challenges faced by researchers studying the toxicology of engineered nanomaterials more than a decade ago. Lessons learned from nanotoxicology could help pave a better path to assess the risks of microplastics.

COVINGTON HOMEOWNERS WANT ANSWERS ON CHEMICAL PLANT ISSUES

There‰??s a foul smell in Covington. Latonia homeowners say it‰??s their next-door neighbor ‰?? not another homeowner, but a nearby chemical plant.
Interplastic Corporation uses styrene and other chemicals to make polyester resins, which are then used to make plastic parts for boats, trucks, pools, spas and bridges. It‰??s a process that can emit an odor.
In January, an explosion at the facility occurred when 31,000 pounds of liquid resin began to harden inside a storage tank, according to fire officials. Since then, Covington leaders said they‰??ve received documents from Fort Wright highlighting nine homeowner complaints.
Homeowners in the Latonia neighborhood of Covington have also filed complaints. David Davidson, Covington‰??s city solicitor, said during a May 10 commission meeting a consent decree was entered in 2004.
‰??That requires Interplastic to make certain reports. Requires it to make available the facility for the fire departments of City of Fort Wright, and the City of Covington,‰?? Davidson said. ‰??That was entered in 2004. As far as I know, not much has been done with that.‰??
