This message was forwarded to me by Dr. Wurrey here at UMKC. We use a local company called A-Chem. They are a service company that specializes in sterilization equipment and boilers. We have a service contract with them that covers labor and travel for quarterly preventative maintenance as well as emergency service calls. We pay for all parts in addition to the service contract. I am sure there are service companies in your area that offer the same service. Boilers, steam generators, and autoclaves require regular maintenance to function safely and efficiently. Your university may have a Campus Facilities Management Department (CFM) that would be able to provide this service as well. Most states require that all steam pressure equipment be registered and inspected regularly. Sometimes they send someone from the state sometimes they send someone affiliated with an insurance company to make sure the equipment is inspected. Your university CFM may take care of all of this as it will relate to university liability.

Hello all,
I know this isn't really a chemical issue, but it is a safety issue!
I am interested in getting our autoclaves (which are getting older) inspected as part of a PM program.
Does anyone currently do this at their university?
Thank you!
Shannon
