A chemical factory was gutted in the Santej area of Ahmedabad in a fire that broke out Sunday.
According to Fire Safety department officials, a fire broke out at Resinova Chemical company at Santej intersection in Ahmedabad around 1:20 am. 'After fire was reported, as many as 15 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Taking into consideration the heat intensity, a fire robot was first sent inside the factory premises by the firefighters. The fire was doused by morning hours and no casualty or injury has been reported,' said a Fire Safety Department official.

A woman ragpicker was killed in an explosion at a garbage bin in the Anandnagar area near Mailardevpally, Hyderabad on Sunday morning, police said.
The deceased was identified as R Susheelamma (40), a resident of Telangana's Mahabubnagar district, who earned her livelihood by collecting plastic waste from the garbage, police added.
'Her husband Rangamuni, who was also involved in picking up plastic waste, was lucky to escape from the mishap as he was a few metres away from the accident spot,' Mylardevpally inspector of police K Narasimha told HT.
According to police, the incident happened at around 9 am, when Sushelamma was segregating the trash in the garbage bin to collect plastic waste.
'A plastic tin containing unknown chemical exploded, causing serious injuries to her. Her left hand was severed due to the blast, and she died on the spot,' Narasimha said.
The loud explosion triggered panic among the locals, who ran away from the spot, fearing it was a bomb explosion, police said.

ALEXANDRIA ' The city's mayor declared a state of local emergency over the weekend following a fire Friday at Curve Street Metals, a scrap yard near downtown.
Members of the Alexandria Fire Department and East Madison Fire Territory, along with the Madison County HAZMAT team, spent several hours bringing the blaze under control. The fire produced billowing smoke that could be seen as far away as Elwood. The smoke drifted over much of Alexandria's downtown and residential neighborhoods and lingered well into Friday evening.
Mayor Todd Naselroad's emergency declaration called the fire 'a threat to the safety of the citizens and visitors to the City of Alexandria,' and noted the potential necessity of evacuating residents and restricting traffic in the neighborhood of the fire.
The emergency order was to remain in effect through March 4.

A massive mine acid leak in Mpumalanga has reached Loskop Dam, threatening SA's second-largest agricultural irrigation scheme.
Work is now under way to contain the 'uncharacteristic environmental incident' at Khwezela Colliery's Kromdraai site in eMalahleni, with numerous role players involved, said mine owner Thungela Resources.
But Agri Limpopo called on Saturday for answers and accountability. 'This toxic, polluted water, contains highly concentrated levels of radioactive metals and salts which are hazardous to all forms of life,' it said.
'This polluted water flowed down the Wilge River, into the Olifants River and has now polluted the Loskop Dam, threatening SA's second-largest agricultural irrigation scheme and causing devastating environmental and ecological damage along the way,' said spokesperson Marthinus Erasmus.
'Apart from the immediate harm, it will take years to rid the river sedimentary system of the metals and to restore the damage done.'

EP.91 HOW CAN WE TELL WHEN SAFETY RESEARCH IS C.R.A.A.P?

EPISODE SUMMARY
Our discussion today centers around the Sarah Blakeslee one-page reference guideline for citing research sources (Blakeslee, Sarah (2004) "The CRAAP Test," LOEX Quarterly: Vol. 31: No. 3, Article 4.) The paper is not peer-reviewed, but it is a helpful and worthwhile reference to keep in mind when writing your papers. While Drew actually uses this guide with his students, research shows that even with the guidelines in front of them, many do not do the work and screen for these elements when using sources.
EPISODE NOTES
We will go through each letter of the amusing and memorable acronym and give you our thoughts on ways to make sure each point is addressed, and different methodologies to consider when verifying or assuring that each element has been satisfied before you cite the source.
Sarah Blakeslee writes (about her CRAAP guidelines): Sometimes a person needs an acronym that sticks. Take CRAAP for instance. CRAAP is an acronym that most students don't expect a librarian to be using, let alone using to lead a class. Little do they know that librarians can be crude and/or rude, and do almost anything in order to penetrate their students' deep memories and satisfy their instructional objectives. So what is CRAAP and how does it relate to libraries? Here begins a long story about a short acronym‰?|

PUEBLO IS STILL HOME TO NEARLY 200,000 MUSTARD GAS WEAPONS FROM WWII. WORKERS HAVE STARTED DISMANTLING THE LAST OF THEM.

A U.S. Department of Defense facility near Pueblo charged with destroying many of the military's last remaining chemical weapons is heading into the final stages of its yearslong effort.
The Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant began disposing of its final stockpile of about 97,000 mustard gas-containing mortar rounds last Saturday. It also has about 92,000 artillery shells left to dismantle.
Since starting destruction operations in 2016, the facility 15 miles east of Pueblo has destroyed more than 600,000 artillery shells ' or about 80 percent of its supply ' of World War II-era munitions assembled as a potential response to expected chemical weapons use by Nazi Germany. The war with Germany ended without the use of such weapons.
In the 1950s, an enormous supply of shells and mortar rounds was transported by train from the Army's Rocky Mountain Arsenal site in Commerce City to the depot near Pueblo that now houses the plant.
Walton Levi, the government's site project manager, said the remaining mortar shells require a different method of disposal from what's been used at the facility so far. Whereas the plant's fire extinguisher-sized artillery shells are carefully disassembled with the help of two large, yellow robotic arms, the mortar shells are placed inside a so-called Static Detonation Chamber, where they are intentionally exploded.

MILLENNIAL SPIRIT CHEMICAL TANKER HIT BY SHELLING, CREW ABANDONS SHIP

A chemical tanker was hit by shelling in the Black Sea near Ukraine, forcing 10 sailors to leap overboard and seriously injuring two.
The Millennial Spirit, a Moldova-flagged vessel, burst into flames in neutral waters on Friday and its lifeboats were destroyed, the nation's naval agency said on its website. The sailors, who abandoned ship wearing lifejackets, were rescued by Ukrainian authorities.
The incident comes a day after a Cargill Inc.-chartered vessel crossing the Black Sea was damaged by shell fire, the first confirmed instance of physical damage related to commodity trading in the region. The source of shelling was unknown in both events.
The back-to-back assaults show the increasing danger faced by commodity haulers amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Ukraine and Russia together account for more than a quarter of the global trade in wheat and about a fifth of corn.

Flat Rock ' A chemical release in a tributary of the Huron River was ongoing Friday but contained to a back channel of the river as officials work to determine its source, state environmental officials said.
State and federal officials have been working to contain the leak since Monday after anglers notified city officials of a "sheen" on the river.
"We consider it well contained at this point," Jill Greenberg, a spokeswoman for the state's Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, told The Detroit News on Friday.
