BOSTON ‰?? Emergency personnel are responding to a Level 3 hazmat situation at Mass General Hospital where a liquid nitrogen tank is leaking in the basement, the fire department said.
Boston Fire officials tweeted that fire personnel responded to the Boston hospital around 5:45 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
Crews are working on shutting down the leak and the area is secure, according to the fire department.

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency announced Thursday that it had referred an enforcement action to the Illinois prosecutor‰??s office against Superior Battery Inc., the site of a lithium battery fire in Morris, which the EPA found violated the Illinois Environmental Protection Act and Illinois Pollution Control Board Regulations.
The Illinois EPA claims that Superior Battery Inc., 919 E. Benton St., ‰??caused, threatened, or permitted the release of pollutants into the air and water, and disposed of or left waste in an unregulated facility.‰??
‰??More violations may be added‰?? as more information about how the company is managing the batteries is gathered, the Illinois EPA said.
The referral urging the attorney general to take legal action said the fire created ‰??smoke containing potentially dangerous substances‰?? and forced the evacuation of about 1,000 homes.
The referral also calls for the Attorney General to call on Superior Battery Inc. to hire a consultant to determine the cause of the fire, contain any runoff and prevent water from being drained off-site, including providing a detailed inventory of the site material.

ROCKFORD ‰?? If you have been affected physically or mentally by the June 14 Chemtool fire in Rockton, the Winnebago County Health Department wants to know about it.
County Health Department Administrator Sandra Martell is asking residents to complete a health impact survey in response to the fire.
On Thursday she said the voluntary survey is an opportunity for residents to be heard, and it helps scientists identify any potential health concerns.
"The goal of the survey is to better understand the impact of the Chemtool fire on the health of the individuals who were in the area," she said, "and that includes first responders, volunteers and if you were passing by in that area."

CREWS BATTLE FIRE THE SIZE OF A FOOTBALL FIELD AT MANNING DRIVE CITY DUMP

Crews are battling a fire the size of a football field at the City of London landfill on Manning Drive this morning, as hazmat teams monitor the surrounding air quality.
"What's burning is just the waste at the city dump. We have three of our water tankers and our hazmat teams monitoring air quality," said London Fire Department Platoon Chief Shawn Fitzgerald.
"We are concerned with the smoke laying low as it travels, because there's heavy smoke, and it's heading east from this location."
The dump is located on Manning Drive, in south London,

Drivers on Manning Drive will need to be cautious, Fitzgerald.
"They may be driving through a smoke cloud, impeding visibility," he said. "It sounds like this fire might be burning for a while. These are difficult fires because we have to use high hose pressure to tear apart the garbage piles."

Saint John fire crews have cleared a Hazmat call on Bayside Drive involving a chemical spill. No one was hurt.
The initial call came in at 10 a.m. on Wednesday about a leak that occurred at Al‰??s Trucking.
Fire officials say it involved a 1,000-litre acetic acid spill inside the business, located between Expansion Avenue and Mcilveen Drive.
They say Therapure will complete the clean-up process and remove the neutralized product.
Bayside Drive was closed to traffic for several hours.

June 30 , 2021 -- Just ahead of Independence Day, a nationwide chlorine shortage is putting a damper on summer plans for backyard pool owners and community aquatic centers across the country.
A massive fire at a Louisiana chemical plant that produces most of the nation‰??s chlorine tablets, combined with a new boom in pool construction, could leave many pools high and dry this Fourth of July, industry experts warn.
The shortage is already driving up chlorine prices and leading swimming pools in some regions of the nation to close or scale back operations.
But the chlorine shortage isn‰??t just hampering summer pool and vacation plans: Experts are worried about public health, too. Chlorine kills bacteria, and pools that aren‰??t treated correctly can spread life-threatening illnesses from E. coli,salmonella, and other germs.
"I‰??m calling it a poolapocalypse or poolmageddon,‰?? says Rudy Stankowitz, a residential and public pool consultant. ‰??It‰??s not going to be easy to make it through this, no matter what we do. The product is scarce. But it‰??s just like any other shortage.

BOLINGBROOK, IL ‰?? After a chemical fire and explosion went off at a chemical plant in Rockton June 14, a student from Bolingbrook was among 12 engineering interns who stepped up to support the Illinois Emergency Management Agency.
The explosion that morning was large enough to see on the weather radar, officials had said, and residents and businesses within a two-mile radius of the plant, Chemtool Incorporated, were ordered to evacuate.
Lily Dempsey, a Bolingbrook resident and student at Purdue University, is interning at Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd., a Rosemont-based firm. She and 11 other interns spent three days in Rockton getting real-world experience in the aftermath of the fire.
After a day of training, the interns surveyed more than 1,100 residential and business properties to gauge potential impacts from the fire, according to a news release.
The engineering company's founder and CEO Christopher B. Burke said it's important to give their interns practical experience since they're the next generation of engineers.
"One of the core practices at CBBEL is being a citizen engineer ‰?? someone who looks beyond their desk to contribute to the world around them ‰?? and it's something we work to instill in our interns as well as our full time employees," Burke said in a statement.

Briefing on the damage to aquatic life in the aftermath of 'X-Press Pearl' container ship sinking, the Attorney General told the Colombo Magistrate's Court that at least 176 turtles, 20 dolphins and four whales have perished due to the resultant chemical leak.
In the last few days, the carcasses of many sea animals have washed ashore. The Wildlife Department has reported the beaching of animals to 26 different Courts, the Attorney General said.
The Court has directed the Government Analyst to submit an official findings report.
The cargo ship was carrying 1,486 containers of chemicals and cargo when it went up in flames on May 21 near the Colombo Port. The Sri Lankan Navy, Air Force and the Indian Coast Guard jointly doused the fire in an operation that took several days, after which the ship sank. Apart from the 325 metric tonnes of fuel (for its own propulsion) in its tanks, the ship was loaded with 25 tonnes of hazardous nitric acid.

Lithium batteries exploded loudly overnight inside a burning former paper mill in northern Illinois that officials had believed was long abandoned, and fire officials have decided to let the blaze burn out because they fear trying to extinguish it could trigger more explosions.
The fire that started in Morris Tuesday prompted city officials to order the evacuation of 3,000-4,000 people in some 950 nearby homes, a school, church and small businesses.
On Wednesday, as thick, black smoke continued to billow from the building, Police Chief Alicia Steffes said the evacuation order would remain in place until at least 9 p.m. and ‰??might be extended.‰??
