I coauthored an article on metal hydride gas acute exposures and medical treatment with Steven Curry M.D. (University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix) and George Warpinski, M.D.(Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix) titled “Tox and Hound – Fellow Friday – Metal Hydrides I” This has been a very productive relationship since they are very familiar with toxic affects and medical treatment of these gases while my background is on the manufacturing and use. We all have a total of more than 100 years of experience! We shared a lot of incident information as well as lessons learned. From our archives we shared articles and reports that many have forgotten or are not aware of since some are 40 years old. Some triggered significant change to the way the gas industry packages and/or transports these gases.
I wished we would have collaborated earlier and done some training together.
In this first chapter our focus is primarily on arsine, germane and hydrogen selenide. Future chapters will be on phosphine, diborane and pentaborane.
