This comes up a lot. I’ve had to deal with it myself in the industrial sector. So, I wonder…

 

In industry it is common for companies to hold your last paycheck until certain items have been returned. Items like keys, badges, cell phones and laptops are common.

 

I’m assuming universities have something similar. Does it include “returning” your lab and office in clean condition?

My first step in these situations is to give the haz waste disposal company the opportunity to look at the containers. They are often able to identify what questions need to be answered to dispose of the material appropriately. These questions are often less detailed and numerous than I would have thought based on the text of the RCRA regs.
