Webinar: "Achieving Zero Waste with Innovative Reuse and Recycling Contracts"

Join us for a webinar where we'll share innovative zero waste contracting approaches to reducing and managing materials to advance source reduction, reuse, and recycling. The U.S. Forest Service will share their strategies for achieving net zero waste at all large fire incidents by 2030, and Urban Ore, Inc. will discuss their transfer station salvage, reuse and recycling contract with the City of Berkeley, California.
The Forest Service's model Blanket Purchase Agreement (executed in 2019) standardized recycling systems and signage and provided standardized reporting for large fire incidents in Arizona, New Mexico, California, Oregon, and Washington. The model can be adapted for use by organizations with multiple facilities, campuses or events. In 2020, the City of Berkeley renewed a contract with Urban Ore, Inc. to advance the city's Zero Waste Goal and reduce operational costs associated with long-haul transportation and landfill disposal.

EJSCREEN 101: Mapping Tools and EPA Competitive Grants EPA defines Environmental Justice (EJ) as the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income, with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies. Incorporating EJ considerations into competitive grant solicitations is one way of advancing the EJ priority expressed in President Biden's Executive Order 13985. Several competitive grants currently being issued by the EPA are now including EJ provisions. Grant applicants are encouraged, as appropriate, to include data from EPA's EJSCREEN tool (or other EJ-focused geospatial mapping tools) as part of their application to help characterize and describe the affected communities/populations and area(s).
On May 18, EPA hosted the webinar EJSCREEN 101: Mapping Tools and EPA Competitive Grants. EJSCREEN is an environmental justice web-based mapping and screening tool that allows users to access high-resolution environmental and demographic information for locations in the United States and compare their selected locations to the rest of the state, EPA region, or the nation. This webinar provides guidance on how to use EJSCREEN effectively, as well as how to tailor its usage to tribes' specific needs, including responding to competitive grants.

Updates to e-Manifest Frequent Questions
On May 12, EPA posted updates to the e-Manifest Frequent Questions (FQs). These updates included FQs related to the upcoming June 30, 2021 deadline for phasing out mailed paper manifests.

New Information Available on Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs)
On May 13, EPA posted new web content related to inadvertent generation of PCBs and a new fact sheet regarding PCBs in building materials to assist property owners or operators in determining if manufactured PCB products may be present in a building or structure.
