Two employees of a Long Island gas company were seriously burned during an explosion.
The incident took place around 6:30 p.m., Monday, March 8, at Paraco Gas, located on Corbin Avenue in Bay Shore, said the Suffolk County Police.
The explosion occurred when the two employees were filling propane tanks when a small explosion, police said.
Both employees were transported by ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of burns.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - The Hazmat team from the Colorado Springs Fire Department responded to their first big incident on Tuesday morning. The team was called out to the area near Vintage Drive and Distinctive Drive in Colorado Springs.
CSFD says the team has been out on several other gas line breaks since they were re-established last week, but this is the first time they have had to identify a substance using one of their 50 thousand dollar meters.
Crews say the substance was spread throughout a two block area and was in about 8-10 piles. They were reportedly able to wash it away.
That meter was able to determine the substance in question was a household product you might find on your shelf. No threat was found!

As of 9 March, 105 people have been killed and 615 others injured following a series of explosions at an armory of the Nkuantoma Gendarmerie and special forces barracks in Bata, which occurred on Sunday, 7 March. At least 482 people have been discharged from the hospital while the rest are still being treated. Some immediate consequences of the blast include significant damage to the only COVID19 testing laboratory. Families whose houses were destroyed in the blast and those who evacuated over fears of another explosion remain without shelter. More than 60 people have been pulled out from rubble at the site of the explosion by the fire service and other agencies.
Preliminary satellite-derived damage assessment of the camp of Nkuantoma in Bata shows widespread damage. The camp is fully destroyed as well as houses and vegetation observed up to 800m from the blast epicentre. Initial figures from military sources indicate that up to 300 houses were destroyed.
Meanwhile, concerns are rising over risks posed by unexploded ordnances including explosives, rockets and other munitions still present at the now defunct Nkuantoma military barracks. Images of citizens posing on social media with these kinds of munitions have gone viral. The Vice President has called on the population to maintain vigilance and asked the military to find a way to better dispose of them.

Dismissed in the case were charges of operating/maintaining a laboratory involving methamphetamine and conspiracy to commit controlled substance - delivery/manufacture of methamphetamine.
In addition to her jail time, Martin was also ordered to pay assessments of $1,936 and also serve out a two-year probation term.

NEWAYGO, MICHIGAN: A student at a high school in the Newaygo Public School District reportedly ignited an ‰??explosive compound‰?? in class, injuring himself and other students, the superintendent said. The incident occurred on Monday morning, March 8.
Four other students and a teacher suffered minor injuries when a 16-year-old student accidentally detonated a homemade explosive device as per the state police. The 16-year-old was also injured. The 16-year-old student who detonated the device suffered moderate to severe injuries when it exploded. The explosion also damaged a desk in the classroom.

BIBB COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) ‰?? A large fire broke out at a Bibb County pallet business Tuesday night.
Fire crews are currently on the scene trying to extinguish the flames at Cahaba Pallets in the 300 block of Airport Road in Centreville. As of 6 p.m., the fire was under control.
Centreville Mayor Mike Oakley said all the equipment inside the business was reportedly destroyed and 3 acres of the property is still burning.
The fire is now a chemical situation involving cyanide. Tuscaloosa Fire Chief Rodney Smith says there are no signs of the material at this time and likely burned up in the fire.
At least 12 fire departments have responded to the scene but have been cleared as of 8:45 p.m. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

MOSINEE, Wis. (WSAW) - A chemical leak Monday morning at Ahlstrom-Munksjo Mosinee Mill required a response from the Hazardous Incident Team.
The Wausau-based hazmat team was paged to the paper mill around 8 a.m. A spokeswoman for the Department of Natural Resources said their assistance was not needed, and the matter was handled by local jurisdictions.

Chemistry departments in England are preparing for the return of undergraduate students to teaching laboratories. The government‰??s roadmap to lift the coronavirus lockdown allows for students on practical courses to return to campuses from 8 March. Campuses currently remain closed to students in the UK‰??s other three nations.
In a statement, Tim Bradshaw, the chief executive of the Russell Group, welcomed the move. ‰??Our members have worked hard to make campuses Covid-secure, with twice-weekly testing and very low overall infection rates this year ‰?? even with students from high-priority courses already back on campus,‰?? he said. ‰??Whilst we understand the importance of easing lockdown in a cautious and controlled way to ensure further tightening of measures are not required, we would urge the government to consider whether more students can return to in-person teaching at the roadmap‰??s first review point in early April. An earlier return will be particularly beneficial for the mental health and well-being of students.‰?? However, the University and College Union has warned that the reopening of campuses is ‰??irresponsible and risks undoing the country‰??s hard work to get Covid-19 rates down‰??.
Chemistry World contacted 20 chemistry departments to find out how universities were reacting to the new guidelines. Of those that responded, the majority were planning to readmit undergraduate students for practical sessions this week. However, most are making allowances for those students who would prefer to study remotely.
Universities have differing interpretations of the government‰??s guidelines ‰?? while some have allowed final year students to continue project work in research laboratories over the recent lockdown, other departments are preparing to admit undergraduates for the first time since the autumn term. And while some are planning to allow all year groups back for practical classes at the earliest opportunity, others are taking a more restrictive approach.
