Several people were hospitalized after a ‰??hazmat incident‰?? at a Philips manufacturing facility in Ontario Thursday morning.

Crews responded to a report of someone with chest pain at a facility where dental care products are manufactured, in the 1700 block of South Baker Avenue around 8 a.m., according to the Ontario Fire Department.

At least 28 people were sickened, with nine taken to area hospitals suffering from symptoms of respiratory irritation, like coughing. Their condition was not life-threatening. Fire officials initially said there were 29 patients.

Hazmat crews combed through the facility but did not identify a chemical irritant in the building.

While the facility does store hazardous materials, the firefighters‰?? equipment wasn‰??t showing any readings of a toxic substance in the building, Ontario Fire Department Battalion Chief Scot Roeber told KTLA. The building was ventilated and cleared, he added.

At Denso Hall, the fire broke out in a warehouse of chemicals and plastic products kept in separate compartments of the facility.

‰??Although fire engines reached within time, yet the fire spread rapidly engulfing almost the whole warehouse,‰?? said an official.

‰??The chemical godown was located inside congested and crowded locality, but thankfully the fire was controlled, otherwise much destruction would have happened. All the people in the commercial area were taken to safety and more fire engines were called in for help. Three fire engines continued the cooling work.‰??

The exact cause of the fire at both the facilities was not known yet, said the fire official, adding that history suggested that vulnerable electricity wiring caused a short circuit which led to such blazes.

The Owensboro Fire Department responded to a chemical spill at Dart Polymers, 2400 Harbor Road, at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Fire Chief James Howard said a hazardous chemical was spilled into the Ohio River at the plant and on the ground nearby.

Firefighters were on the scene until 2 a.m., he said, when it was determined that the spill didn‰??t pose a danger to people.

Howard said Dart Polymers put out a containment boom to keep the spill from moving downriver and brought in an outside contractor to begin the cleanup.

He said Kentucky Environmental Response was on the scene quickly.

Howard said firefighters were unable to find the source of the spill, but nothing was leaking when they arrived on the scene.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) ‰?? More than 400,000 electrostatic sprayers used to disinfect surfaces have been recalled because the rechargeable battery pack can overheat and melt, which could cause it to catch on fire and/or explode.

The recall affects Victory Innovations and Protexus Electrostatic Sprayers which were sold at chemical and cleaning supply distributors nationwide and online from January 2016 through November 2020, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The CPSC says there have been 37 reports of the battery packs overheating, catching on fire or exploding, some of which resulted in property damage. No injuries have been reported to date.

Anyone who bought one of the sprayers is advised to stop using it immediately, remove the battery pack and dispose of it in accordance with local laws for disposal of lithium ion batteries.

Printed circuit board (PCB) and integrated circuit (IC) manufacturer Unimicron Technology Corporation (TWSE: 3037) saw its stock price plummet this early this afternoon after a fire at its Taoyuan City factory at noon today, February 4.

The Taoyuan City Fire department dispatched 42 vehicles and more than 100 personnel to the Shanying plant in Guishan District after thick black smoke was reported pouring out of the plant.

According to reports, the fire started on the second floor of a building where workers were dismantling equipment damaged in a fire on October 28. It is suspected that debris was ignited when an acetylene torch was being used to cut equipment.
