LAS CRUCES, New Mexico ‰?? New Mexico State Police shut down a stretch of Interstate 25 in Las Cruces and a hazardous materials team responded Thursday after a rollover crash involving a commercial motor vehicle hauling fuel.
The driver sustained unknown injuries and was transported to an area hospital, police said.
NMSP spokesman Dusty Francisco said the Las Cruces Fire Department‰??s Hazmat team was called about 2 p.m. to assist because diesel and gas was believed to be leaking from the tanker.
Transportation officials said I-25 south and northbound lanes at mile post 18-32 had finally reopened as of 11:30 p.m., after the accident was removed.

We are all familiar with the electrostatic shocks we receive at home or stores, perhaps from elevator buttons or shop displays, or when getting out of a car. These shocks are examples of ‰??sparks‰?? or sudden discharges of static electricity (Figure 1). They are a nuisance in a home setting, but in an industrial context, electrostatic discharges can and do cause many devastating flash fires and explosions. This is particularly true in the chemical process industries (CPI), where plants routinely handle flammable liquids and solids in ways that inadvertently generate static electricity. These materials are often flammable, of course, and they can be ignited by discharges of the static electricity that they have generated.

TRUCK ROLLOVER IN SUMMIT COUNTY LEAKS PROPANE, CAUSES EVACUATION

A semi truck carrying propane gas rolled over Wednesday afternoon at the Echo Junction of Interstate 80 and Interstate 84.
Shortly before 2pm on Wednesday, a truck hauling propane gas rolled over at Echo Junction in Summit County. According to the Utah Department of Transportation, the North Summit Fire District, Utah Highway Patrol, and Park City Fire District hazmat crews responded. No injuries have been reported.
The truck began to leak gas and authorities issued a hazardous materials warning, requiring immediate evacuation of the surrounding area until approximately 2:50pm. Evacuees were directed to avoid the freeway at Echo Junction and travel along the Echo frontage road. Shelter was provided at the LDS Church in Henefer.

BUFFALO FIRE CREWS CALLED OUT TO FLICKINGER ATHLETIC CENTER FOR HAZMAT INCIDENT

Buffalo Fire crews were called out to the Flickinger Athletic Center on Oak Street during the lunch hour Wednesday afternoon.
A city spokesperson says the Level 1 hazmat incident involved a maintenance worker being exposed to muriatic acid. That worker was taken to the hospital to be treated for chemical burns.
It's a potentially dangerous acid, but despite the big response, which also shut down a ramp off the 190, they say people around there were not in danger.
"There's no concerns outside the building at all," Buffalo Fire Division Chief Mike Tuberdyke said. "We just had to shut down the surrounding street outside the Flickinger Center itself just because of traffic. We knew we were going to be here operating in and out, and we didn't want anyone getting in an accident or have any of our people hit as well."
