For many years the Division of Chemical Education, NSTA, DIVCHAS, CCCS, and Flinn Scientific have issued guidelines for chemical demonstrations. This particular list from CCCS is quite useful. However, except for the Flinn Scientific videos (which are
not as detailed as I would prefer), no one teaches a potential demonstrator the proper way to perform chemical demonstrations. Past programs such as the Institute for Chemical Education (ICE), Hope College, and the Dreyfus Institute did
teach proper techniques, but these did not survive past the 1990s due to lack of available grant funds. There may be some specific courses at some colleges or universities that do so, but I am personally not aware of them.
