Two points on this:
The first is that people did respond to what I asked for, which was thoughts on how the demo was conducted, not whether C&EN should promote it.

Secondly, I think that many of the respondents know that C&EN decided several years ago that, with few exceptions, we won't show people in a lab and/or doing activities without appropriate safety precautions. Most decisions are easy--we probably reject at least one photo a week because someone is obviously in a lab and wearing neither safety glasses nor goggles (frequently while wearing a lab coat and even gloves). Some are less straightforward, so I seek additional opinions to help make the decision. Usually I do that more directly with CHAS/CCS leadership, but given the holiday season I thought I'd cast the net wider this time by going to the list.
