When the White House welcomes a new first family it gets a thorough cleaning in the five hours allotted for the turnover. But with a global pandemic raging -- and an outgoing President whose orbit is rife with people shunning public health guidelines and coming down with Covid-19, this January 20 is expected to include a deeper, more exhaustive cleaning, according to a White House official.
It's one of many changes expected around how the White House operates when President-elect Joe Biden takes over. His campaign has diligently modeled public health guidelines with mask wearing and social distancing even as he campaigned against outgoing President Donald Trump, who instead held large rallies packed with people, many of whom did not wear masks.
While there are not "firm plans" for execution, the agency in charge of things, the General Services Administration, is handling what will be a "thorough disinfecting and cleansing" of every surface in the 55,000 square foot mansion.
Rugs and window treatments, if kept, will also be deep-cleaned, according to the official. The executive residence will be deep-cleaned and likely sprayed "in the same manner as the West Wing and the rest of the White House has been since Covid regulations and guidelines were implemented months ago."

Firefighters and Hazmat technicians used high-powered fans to push dangerous hydrogen sulfide gas out of a high-rise building near the Rideau Canal on Thursday evening.
Once the gas had dissipated and technicians could ensure the air in the building was safe, evacuated residents were allowed to return to their units shortly before 7 p.m., Ottawa Fire Services reported.

‰??Building maintenance staff remain on location to resolve any plumbing issues which led to the release and buildup of gas,‰?? a media release added.
Ottawa Fire Services received a call at 4:45 p.m. from a resident of the building near the intersection of McLeod Street and Cartier Street, just east of Elgin, reporting a strong odour of what they believed to be natural gas in their unit.

One person suffered a minor injury following a chemical leak at the Springfield Dole plant today, an official with the Springfield Fire Division said.
Fire and hazmat crews were dispatched at 10:45 a.m. to 600 Benjamin Drive after reports of a chemical leak at the Dole plant, Springfield Fire Division Battalion Chief Jeremy Linn said.
He said anhydrous ammonia was leaking inside the Dole building in one of their mechanical rooms.
‰??There was one minor injury that was transported,‰?? Linn said. ‰??That gentlemen has been released from the hospital.‰??

THE STATE labour department Wednesday issued closure notices to three chemical factories hours after a major fire broke out in the units located at Vatva Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) phase-2 in Ahmedabad.
The fire was first reported around 12.30 am on Wednesday at Matangi Industries, a chemical factory at Vatva GIDC phase-2 area near Vatva Vinzol railway crossing. It soon spread to two adjacent factories ‰?? Jagson Colorchem Limited and Bhavin Industries, officials said. The blaze spotted even from the far-off residential pockets in Vatva area, caused panic though no casualties or injuries were reported, they added.
More than 100 personnel of the fire safety department and local police along with ambulances were rushed to the spot after the fire was reported, Rajesh Bhatt, additional chief fire officer, Fire Safety department of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation said. ‰??Six fire-fighting vehicles and 24 water tankers were pressed in action and the fire was doused by 10 am. No casualties have been reported. The reason for fire remains unknown as of now,‰?? Bhatt added.
