TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - The investigation continues into a hazardous materials incident in Toledo that began on Thursday. It‰??s even affected some people who live miles from the original site.
Calls started coming in around 7 Thursday evening about a chemical smell in the area of Western and Corinth. The Toledo Fire and Rescue Department confirms the leak came from a rail car at Global Chemical Resources.
Hazmat crews began doing air monitoring and taking water samples from the sewer system Thursday. The Ohio EPA continued testing Friday.
People miles away reported smelling the odor in the early-morning hours. Eric Worden says the pungent odor was in several homes on his block.
‰??As soon as I got to the front porch the smell was horrendous. It almost smells like paint and paint-thinner,‰?? says Worden.
This is a fluid situation, but as of right now there are no mandatory evacuations.

EGLIN AFB ‰?? The Thursday fire on the main portion of Eglin Air Force Base was confined to a single laboratory in the Air Force Research Laboratory's High Explosives Research and Development (HERD) Facility, an Eglin spokesman said Friday. The spokesman could not say how large an area was affected by the blaze.
The fire, reported at 11:30 a.m. Thursday and extinguished by on-base firefighters before 1 p.m., injured one woman, identified Friday only as an employee of a contractor working on the base.
She was listed in stable condition Friday at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, according to Eglin AFB spokesman Andy Bourland. Due to medical privacy regulations, Bourland could not comment on the nature or extent of the woman's injuries.
The laboratory where the fire occurred was not in operation Friday, but was anticipated to be back in operation early next week, according to Bourland. Despite the nature of the work done at the HERD Facility, there was never any danger of an explosion or environmental damage from the laboratory as a result of the fire, Bourland said.

Bharuch, Nov 6 (PTI) A labourer working at a pesticide factory in Dahej industrial area of Gujarat''s Bharuch district was killed after a fire broke out in the unit''s effluent treatment plant on Friday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Ramkumar Chaudhary (40), who was working at the treatment plant when the fire erupted, Bharuch Superintendent of Police Rajendrasinh Chudasama said.
Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot after getting a call about the blaze in the afternoon, he said, adding that it was doused within an hour.
"After the fire was extinguished, Chaudhary''s body was found lying in the debris. He was the only person working in the effluent treatment plant when the mishap occurred. Nobody else was injured in the incident," Chudasama said.
Factory inspector N D Vaghela told reporters that presence of some chemical or its reaction in the effluent treatment plant may have triggered the fire, but the exact reason would be known after a probe. PTI COR PJT PD NP NP

A spill of more than 15,000 gallons of crude oil just east of the town of Cameron during Hurricane Laura has been determined to be significant enough to trigger a federal-state natural resource damage investigation, according to the Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator‰??s Office.
Apart from the well-documented fire and release of chlorine gas at a BioLab chemical manufacturing facility in Westlake, the oil release -- from a White Oak Operating Co. production facility -- is so far the only major environmental incident in the aftermath of Laura and Hurricanes Delta and Zeta that has triggered regulatory actions by state agencies beyond initial checks and follow-ups.
The damage was originally reported to the Coast Guard National Response Center on Aug. 28, the day after Laura made landfall, in an area where surge levels approached 17 feet, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
According to a series of Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality inspection forms from September and October, inspectors found between 10 and 15 acres of marsh were fouled by an oil spill near one of two White Oak facilities just northeast of Cameron. On Oct. 6, inspectors wrote that a cleanup was underway, but would likely take between one and three months to complete.

Chesapeake Energy Corp. sued its insurer Thursday seeking to force the carrier to defend it in litigation over a deadly Eagle Ford Shale well blast.
The lawsuit ‰?? filed in the same Texas federal court where Chesapeake is involved in Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings ‰?? accuses Starr Indemnity & Liability Co. of breach of contract for failing to pay Chesapeake's defense costs in 11 lawsuits.
The underlying lawsuits were brought by family members and alleged victims of a blowout on a Chesapeake well in Burleson County in January. Three workers died in a fire that occurred when natural gas ignited while they were repairing the well. It was initially reported that only one other worker had sustained injuries, but there are now at least five claiming they were injured in the blast, according to Chesapeake's lawsuit.
The Oklahoma City-based company said it didn't have any personnel on-site at the time of the fire, though some victims have claimed otherwise. The contractors Chesapeake hired to perform the work are also being sued by victims and their families.

Units found to be operating illegally; GPCB investigating nature of chemicals stored at these units in Lambha
In wake of the blast at a chemical factory in Piplaj, which killed 12 persons and left nine others in hospital, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation began checking units storing hazardous chemicals. On Friday, it sealed six units in the south zone for illegally storing hazardous chemicals. All these units are in the vicinity of the factory, Sahil Enterprise, where the blast took place on November 4.
Vipul Mittra, additional chief secretary of Labour and Employment department and one of the two members on the panel overseeing investigation in the blast at Sahil Enterprise, had written a letter to the municipal commissioner asking for action to be taken against such illegal units. Subsequently, the estate, urban development and solid waste management departments of the south zone began checking units storing hazardous chemicals on Friday. According to the officials, the six units did not have permission or required licences and hence were sealed. These units, all located in Lambha ward, include Shah Warehouse, a unit owned by Sundarkumar Agrawal, Shree Shyam Global owned by Subhash Agrawal, one owned by Pankaj Jain, Gayatri Marketing owned by Sanjay Patel and Omkar Chemical owned by Yogesh Patel.

CHEMICAL FACTORY BLAST IN AHMEDABAD: OWNER, 2 OTHERS ARRESTED

Two days after a blast at a chemical factory in Ahmedabad killed 12 people, police arrested three accused including the owner of the factory, who were then sent to police remand by a court on Friday evening.
Around 11.22 am on Wednesday, a massive blast occurred at Sahil Enterprises located in the estate of Nanubhai Bharwad on the Pirana-Piplaj Road, which led to the collapse of the adjacent Kanika Texo Fab garments company godown.
A total of 12 people, employed at both Sahil Enterprises and Kanika Texo Fab, died and 10 others were injured in the blast and subsequent building collapse.
The deceased include four women and two minors.
