A semi-tractor trailer carrying gasoline overturned while traveling between Yellowstone National Park's Mud Volcano and Fishing Bridge Junction, park officials said Thursday morning.

The roughly 6-mile stretch of the Grand Loop Road between the two locations is closed while crews deal with the accident.

"Currently, park crews are in the area to assist with the hazmat cleanup," Yellowstone officials said shortly before 11 a.m., adding, "It is unknown how long the road closure will last. This is an emerging incident, and the park will continue to provide current information when it is available."

teams are responding to a chemical fire that erupted along the I-10, west of Lake Charles, La, Thursday morning.

The fire is reported to have broken out at BioLabs, a company that manufactures chlorine for swimming pools.

Louisiana Governor, John Bel Edwards tweeted: ‰?? Residents are advised to shelter in place until further notice and close your doors and windows. ‰??

According to KHOU-11, social media photos and videos showed a large plume of black smoke rising from the area just hours after Hurricane Laura ripped through the region. It‰??s unknown if the fire was caused by the storm.

According to NPR, the state also pushed out an emergency text notice. It wasn‰??t immediately clear how much damage the fire is causing within the plant or what hazards it presents to local residents.

Sierra Streams Institute, whose laboratory and office space was located in Madrone Hall on the Sierra Friends Center campus, lost it all as the entire building was burned in the Jones Fire.

Sierra Streams Institute is an environmental nonprofit, and they employ 12 scientists ‰?? with varied specializations in hydrology, biology, and chemistry ‰?? in their work on protecting local watersheds. The institute also hosts educational opportunities for the community.

‰??There is nothing left but ash and metal. Our storage shed that was next to our building was also completely destroyed, and we had a lot of specialized and expensive equipment,‰?? said Joanne Hild, executive director of Sierra Streams Institute.

The Jones Fire destroyed 21 buildings, many of them homes, Cal Fire has said.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A designated evacuation route for those trying to leave ahead of Hurricane Laura is back open after a hazmat spill briefly closed the road.

The northbound lanes of I-45 at Spring Cypress were shut down while emergency and cleanup crews responded to the scene. This is important because the northbound side of the freeway is the evacuation route.

A homeowner attempting to unclog a bathroom drain mixed drain cleaner with bleach in the 100 block of North Q Street and was overcome with dangerous and potentially deadly fumes, according to the CalFire authorities.

Battalion Fire Chief Anthony Garcia said the initial call at 10 a.m. Saturday morning was for a medical aid for a person with respiratory distress, but fire personnel quickly identified the strong smell of chlorine gas and the danger inside the home.

Garcia said once the situation was identified as hazardous the four residents were quickly evacuated from the house, along with their small dog, and birds.

‰??About 20 fire personnel responded and they made two different entries (in full Hazmat breathing gear) into the house to locate the source of the odor, which had now spread and become a heavy chlorine gas.‰??

Some of the deadliest weapons ever made by humankind are right off our shores, deliberately dumped at the bottom of the ocean from Delaware to Florida.

Fifty years ago this month, servicemen sank ‰?? on purpose ‰?? a 442-foot World War II freighter loaded with 12,540 rockets of sarin nervegas and one container of even deadlier VX nerve gas. She was sunk 283 miles due east of Cape Canaveral. It was all part of a military weapons disposal plan, supposedly the last of its kind.

The lethal cargo aboard the scuttled LeBaron Russell Briggs was the final "known" major cache of chemical weapons that America dumped at sea. Her cargo of obsolete nerve gas from the Korean War sank three miles deep in just eight minutes, slamming the seafloor at 25 mph and bringing to a spectacular end the controversial practice of dumping chemical weapons offshore.

But the Briggs is just one of many ships loaded with chemical and other toxic weapons lying on the ocean floor in the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico.

Reports at 2:40 p.m. of a rear-end collision involving two semis on Interstate 65 southbound, just north of the Lafayette Avenue exit, were not initially alarming. However, when officers arrived they discovered that one of the semis, a tanker operated by Quest Liner out of southern Indiana, was carrying a toxic chemical called acetic anhydride. This highly corrosive chemical can severely irritate the skin, eyes, nose, throat and possibly cause lung damage.

Center Township Fire Department firefighter Casey Samson said full suits, respirators, gloves and boots were required. A risk of the chemical starting a fire was high and there were 5,000 gallons of it in the damaged tanker. The chemical turned a simple rear-end accident into a major hazardous material or hazmat response. Shutdowns occurred on I-65 in both directions twice over the next 15 hours.

‰??If the truck were to have contact with water, it could ignite because it is very volatile with water,‰?? Samson said.

EL PASO, Texas ‰?? A chemical mishap at an El Paso Water lab on Tuesday sent an employee to the hospital.

The El Paso Fire Department responded to the International Water Quality Lab at 11:15 a.m. at 4100 Delta Drive.

One patient was transported to a hospital for evaluation.

The water company, in a statement sent to ABC-7, described the incident as ‰??an unintended chemical reaction.‰??

‰??The chemical reaction resulted in the discharge of fire retardant and the lab was evacuated,‰?? the statement read.

The employee did not appear to be injured, the water company added.

Lab operations resumed within a few hours.

A massive toxic inferno at a chemical waste facility in Melbourne resulted in criminal charges being brought ‰?? but now one of the key players has died.

Paul Anthony Bristow, the director of Bradbury Industrial Services, was personally facing 10 charges put by the Environment Protection Authority over the terrifying fire.

He was the sole shareholder of the company, which has since been put into administration.

Mr Bristow was due to appear in court on September 9 but has died, lawyer Vincent Azzopardi told the court.

Barrels of burning waste were sent flying into the sky in the massive blaze at the company‰??s Campbellfield factory in Melbourne‰??s north on April 5 last year.

Two workers were injured when the chemical drums exploded.

Smoke choked surrounding suburbs from the toxic blaze that burned at the factory for days before it was put out in a mammoth effort from emergency services.

Environmentalists are sounding alarms over a multi-year plan to dig up highly volatile sludge at a toxic chemical dump in Bridgewater, New Jersey. The American Cyanamid Superfund site has long been designated as one of the nation‰??s most poisonous chemical waste repositories.

But this summer, pharmaceutical giant Pfizer began its first efforts to dig up and transport volatile organic compounds (VOCs) resting at the bottom of two lagoons next to the Raritan River. The lagoons are filed with 44,700 tons of "acid tar" which the EPA labels Principal Threat Waste ‰?? meaning the material presents a significant risk to human health.

"The simple act of digging into that material could cause an exothermic reaction. In other words a giant chemical explosion," said Robert Spiegel, Director of Edison Wetlands Association, a watchdog that monitors Superfund sites in New Jersey. "They have no idea the witch's brew of different poisons that make up these two giant impoundments."
