While it would be a nice idea, the cost of living differences across the country are rather large. Thus, advertising the pay range can be deceiving.
I looked at moving from Fort Wayne to Chicago about 10 years ago. I even talked with realtors. These cities are only 4hrs apart..
At the time, Chicago was advertised as 30% higher cost of living. Found out that to maintain the same house/yard size, I would have had to increase my commute time from 40minutes to 2hrs each way. To keep my commute the same, I would have
had to purchase a home half the size and at double the value. So, in practice it wasn’t a 30% delta. The very enticing higher pay actually fell short of what was needed to maintain my standard of living.
On the flip side, the pay for a job posted in a low cost of living area can be perceived as laughable. I mean, at first glance, would anyone consider a 30% pay cut to move?

Hi All,
As a listserv, can we institute a policy that salary ranges must be provided if a job is to be shared? I know ACS has a salary calculator, but these postings can provide chemical safety professionals with some valuable information for their
current job or future employment.
