A major fire broke out at a chemical factory in Pandav Nagar area of Ghaziabad on Sunday afternoon and the fire department had to rush at least 15 tenders to douse the fire. The officials said that the fire started due to probable short circuit at around 1.45pm and could be doused after two hours of hectic efforts.

The officials said that the factory is located under the jurisdiction of Kavi Nagar police station area and used for manufacturing of chemicals. The fire department officials said that fire engulfed the entire factory as well threatened nearby residential house due to storage of chemicals.

‰??We got a call around 1.45pm and our teams rushed to the spot. We also had to call up fire tenders from the Hindon airbase, Gautam Budh Nagar besides our own fire tenders. The factory had storage of about 200 containers, filled with 200 litres each of chemical. Many of them caught fire. The fire also threatened nearby residential area and a factory opposite to it,‰?? said Sunil Kumar Singh, chief fire officer.

FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine ‰?? Firefighters in Fort Fairfield worked Sunday morning to extinguish a fire that started in hay at Lucerne Farms, located at 40 Easton Line Road.

The fire was caused by spontaneous combustion in hay ‰?? a chemical reaction that occurs when there is a high moisture level in haystacks or hay bales ‰?? according to Fort Fairfield Fire Department Deputy Chief Tim Browning.

‰??You‰??d think drier hay would start the fire, but it‰??s not, it‰??s the other way around,‰?? Browning said. ‰??Anything less than 10 percent moisture is good to put in, and this was probably a little higher than that.‰??

Firefighters had received a call at 6:28 a.m. Sunday and it took approximately four and a half hours to extinguish the blaze. Assistance was also provided from the Presque Isle, Easton and Caribou Fire Departments as well.

He said residents who live near the site of the leak should stay in their homes.

‰??There‰??s a good wind, and most of the ammonia will dissipate, but we want everyone to stay safe,‰?? Burton told Gephardt Daily.

Crews were called out at about 11:30 p.m., and Burton said there is no way of knowing how long they will need to be on scene.

CHILDHOOD OBESITY LINKED TO INDOOR AIR POLLUTION

Childhood obesity is a growing problem worldwide, and its causes are complex and poorly understood. Researchers have previously shown how exposure to individual pollutants such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances and secondhand smoke contribute to obesity in children, yet few studies consider the multiple simultaneous exposures children experience in the real world. This makes it difficult to understand the significance of single risk factors against a background of confounding variables. Now, an international team lead by epidemiologists Martine Vrijheid of the Barcelona Institute for Global Health and Lida Chatzi of the University of Southern California have analyzed the individual and combined effects of more than 150 suspected risk factors (Environ. Health Perspect. 2020, DOI: 10.1289/EHP5975). The researchers looked at body fat measurements and exposure histories from more than 1,300 children aged 6 to 11 from six European countries. Their results confirm that childr!
en whose mothers smoked during pregnancy are more likely to be obese. This study is the first to show that indoor air pollution‰??specifically fine particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide‰??increases the likelihood of a child being overweight or obese. The association between indoor NO2 and childhood obesity was strongest in children whose mothers attended an institution of higher education. The researchers are interested in exploring that link.

TRAIN DERAILS IN LIVINGSTON PARISH DUE TO TREE ON TRACKS, KNOCKS OUT POWER LINES

Tags: us_LA, transportation, release, response, carbon_dioxide

WALKER- A train carrying non-toxic chemicals derailed at Walker's Corbin Avenue and Florida Boulevard/Highway 190 on Thursday morning.

The train derailed shortly before 6 a.m. due to a tree on the tracks. The cars also knocked down power lines as they left the tracks, causing outages in the area and creating a potential Hazmat situation.

Officials acted swiftly, closing Highway 190 and Corbin Avenue (both eastbound and westbound lanes) to address the situation.

Walker Mayor Jimmy Watson elaborated on the situation, telling WBRZ that one of the four derailed train cars was carrying carbon dioxide, and the other three were, at one point, carrying ammonia, but the ammonia was removed prior to the derailment.
