KINGSTON, Mass. ‰?? A hoverboard sparked a fire inside a home in Kingston Sunday evening, Deputy Fire Chief Adam Hatch told Boston 25 News.
Firefighters were called to the home on Country Club Way around 7:30 p.m.
The homeowner was able to extinguish the majority of fire after calling 911, Hatch said.

The fire extended to nearby furniture, but no one was hurt.
Firefighters were ventilating the home and wrapping up at the scene as of 8 p.m.
Hoverboards run on lithium-ion batteries that can overheat. They‰??ve been linked to dozens of fires nationwide since they first became popular in 2016.

LONDON (ICIS)--A fire at Borealis‰?? steam cracker in Stenungsund, Sweden, which broke out yesterday had been extinguished by Sunday morning, the Austrian polyolefins and fertilizers major said.
The fire occurred at the cracker‰??s compressor at 20:45 local time on Saturday (9 May) and caused no injuries.
Flaring at the site is still expected on Sunday; flaring is the practise of burning off gas released during shutdowns or restarts.
The company is providing updates for local residents on this website (in Swedish).
Borealis‰?? Stenungsund cracker has production capacities of 625,000 tonnes/year for ethylene and 200,000 tonne/year of propylene.
Local emergency services triggered an alarm at 21.55, recommending residents in the area to stay indoors; the alarm was lifted at 05.15 on Sunday.

COVID-19: A RISK ASSESSMENT PERSPECTIVE

COVID-19 is a newly emerging viral respiratory disease first identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. The disease is caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which is related to the viruses that cause SARS and MERS. While the case fatality ratio for COVID-19 (5%) is far lower than that for SARS (11%) and MERS (34%), COVID-19 is spreading relatively uncontrolled at this time across the globe. In contrast, SARS appears to be contained, and MERS is controlled. This paper will explore why COVID-19 is able to progress to a global pandemic that affects our daily lives to an extent not known in recent history. The COVID-19 outbreak and spread will be examined based on the current literature, using a researcher‰??s perspective of risk assessment and risk mitigation; this approach will be related to public health.

WHAT FABRICS MAKE THE MOST EFFECTIVE HOMEMADE MASKS?

Tightly woven cotton, such as that used to make high-thread-count sheets; four layers of silk; and mixtures of fabric, such as cotton and flannel or cotton and chiffon, are good materials for making masks to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, scientists report. According to a new study, masks made from these fabrics are good at filtering saltwater aerosols 10 nm to 6 ĺµm‰??the same size as droplets that are known to spread respiratory viruses (ACS Nano 2020, DOI: 10.1021/acsnano.0c03252). Droplets this size tend to stay suspended in air. Last month, upon learning the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would recommend that people wear face coverings, scientists at the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering, the University of Chicago, and Argonne National Laboratory decided to test the filtration properties of various fabrics. ‰??There was very little scientific data taken with laboratory-grade instruments on this,‰?? says Supratik Guha, who led!
the research. Guha built an apparatus to flow aerosols through fabric and paired it with sophisticated equipment from Argonne that measures the size and distribution of aerosols. After observing which aerosols penetrate 15 types of fabrics, Guha recommends using at least two layers of fabric but not so many layers that airflow becomes blocked. Also, he says, gaps between the contours of the mask and the face can significantly degrade a mask‰??s performance.

Around 500 kg of chemicals were airlifted from Gujarat and sent to Visakhapatnam on Thursday to neutralise the impact of hazardous gas Styrene that leaked at the plant in the early hours claiming more than half a dozen lives.
Due to the lockdown, officials at LG Polymers Private Ltd, where the gas leak took place, requested the government authorities to arrange a chemical called 4-Teritiary Butylcatchol (PTBC), available with a chemical factory in Gujarat that would help in containing the reaction at an early stage.
‰??The matter was discussed in the Home Ministry and within 20 minutes, the chemical was arranged and dispatched from the Daman airport to Visakhapatnam,‰?? a senior government official said.

CHENNAI: At least eight workers of Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) India were injured and hospitalised when a boiler in one of the power units in Neyveli in Tamil Nadu's Cuddalore district exploded on Thursday evening.
All the eight people, two employees and six contract workers, have been admitted to a private hospital Tiruchy. Of the eight, two have suffered 70 percent burns, while the rest have 30-50 percent burns.
The explosion comes as the nation suffered two other industrial tragedies on Thursday, the gas leak at a chemical plant in Vizag that has killed 11 people so far, and the gas leak at a paper mill in Chhattisgarh where seven workers were hospitalised after inhaling toxic gases.
The cause of the Neyveli mishap could not be ascertained immediately, however, fire rescue services and the police rushed to the spot to contain the explosion.
