Michael:

The important steps in a screening program are:

  1. Provide a questionnaire based on the CDC.
    1. Do you have a new cough?
    2. Do you have now or have had in the past 7 days elevated body temperature?
    3. Are you feeling ill now?
    4. Is anyone in your family positive or suspect-positive?
    5. Have you been exposed to anyone in the past 14 days who is positive or suspect-positive?
    6. Have you traveled on mass transportation in the past 14 days?

Amend the questions to suit your needs.  A YES will result in denial of entry to the facility.

  1. Set a realistic threshold temperature. 100 – 100.4 F (37.8 – 38.0) is the common trigger range for denial of entry.
  2. The screener MUST maintain a 6 foot (2 meter) separation.
  3. You must train your screeners fully and be prepared for contingencies.
  4. Surgical or cloth facial barrier, faceshield, (plus goggles, though this can become onerous and physical separation should be adequate), gloves, replaced frequently. Disposable lab coat would be beneficial.
  5. Persons denied entry should be given written instructions telling them to go home, self-isolate and CALL DO NOT GO TO their healthcare provider.

Review your protocols daily and adjust as needed.

Your screening barrier is your hard line of defense to protect your employees and your facility.

Let us know how this is working for you. Join our call-in next week.

Stay healthy and stay safe.

QUESTION

WE ARE INSTITUTING A MANADATORY TEMPERATURE BE TAKEN OF EVERY PERSON ENTERING OUR BUILDING.  THE QUESTION CAME UP AFTER WE PURCHASED THE TEMORAL THERMOMETERS,  WHAT SHOULD THE PPE BE FOR THIS PERSON?  OBVIOUSLY THEY CANT BE 6 FEET APART.

OUR SHORT ANSWERT WAS LAB COAT, MASK, FACE SHIELD AND GLOVES.

ANY OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS FOR NON MEDICAL FACILITIES?

Good afternoon, DCHAS!

Last night, Neal and I hosted a version of “Ask Dr. Safety” and it was a hit – so much so that people wanted more and they told us what they wanted to talk about:  Recovery and Contingency planning for post-COVID-19 activities.

So, Wednesday, April 15th, 9PM Eastern (8PM Central, 7PM Mountain, 6PM Pacific) we will be having a second round of Ask Dr. Safety on Google Meet.

Email me at (harry**At_Symbol_Here**midwestchemsafety.com) OFF LIST for log-on information.  Google Meet limits participants to 250.

Hope to see you there!

Harry
