Firefighters and the London Ambulance Service were called to reports of a chemical incident in Defoe Road at 11.50pm on Sunday. London Fire Brigade said mixing products had caused a chemical reaction and produced a ‰??small amount‰?? of chlorine gas.

Crews carried out a sweep of the property and ventilated it to make it safe. A man and a woman who had left the building were treated at the scene.

The incident was under control within an hour. Firefighters from Stoke Newington attended along with fire rescue units from Bethnal Green and Euston.

BELDING, Mich. ‰?? On March 19, 2020 the City of Belding reached a consent decree with Kassouni Manufacturing that ends the company's ability to use, produce, and store trichloroisocyanuric acid, or TCICA.

TCICA and other similar chemicals are designed to kill bacteria and control algae in swimming pools and hot tubs.

However, these chemicals are also highly reactive and are an explosion hazard.

If handled incorrectly, TCICA releases toxic gases that can irritate and burn the nose, throat, and lungs.

‰??We are very pleased to have reached this settlement with Kassouni Manufacturing, which protects the health, safety and well-being of our residents,‰?? said City Manager John Niemela.

‰??The company has reorganized, and we feel confident the new leadership will live up to the letter and spirit of this agreement" Niemela also said.

Belding Mayor Brad Miller, Niemela, and members of the City Council worked with Kassouni Manufacturing's owner and plant manager to reach the consent decree.

‰??Dangerous chemicals like TCICA have no place in Belding. This consent decree ensures they will never be used again, but will allow the company to continue to manufacture other products and retain jobs in our community" said Niemela.

Rajendranagar: Chemical explosions and infernos in godowns filled with different kinds of inflammable material continue to haunt the residents of Shastripuram colony. Unorganised and uncontrolled by authorities these units are coming up every alternate day in and around the residential colony.

Only a week after an explosion shook the buildings near railway track in south side of Shivrampally, neighboring Shastripuram, another incident of fire occurred on Wednesday night in a scrap godown in Raghavendranagar colony which stands north side of Shastripuram colony.

The DCP Shamshabad, Prakash Reddy, ACP Rajendranagar Ashok Chakraverthi and CI Mailardevpalli K.Sathaiah Goud rushed ti the spot and took stock of the situation.

The fire accident on Wednesday night gutted a paper godown also containing plastic stuff creating a panic in the area. Though the flames were doused out with the help of a fire tender which reached the spot, on time, the smoldering continued to pollute the air for several hours.

No injuries were reported as no one was present inside the godown at the time of incident.

Atanker carrying inflammable liquid caught fire at Shil Phata in Thane district on Wednesday afternoon, an official said. The fire was brought under control within couple of hours, said chief of Regional Disaster Management Cell Santosh Kadam.

After the tanker caught fire, there were two explosions and it fell on its side, he said. The tanker driver, who received minor injures, was taken to a nearby hospital, he said.

The accident caused a huge traffic jam on ShilMhape road. Fire brigade officials said the tanker was carrying some kind of "highly inflammable material" but it was not petrol or diesel, and further probe was on.

The US EPA has set out production and consumption allowances for specific hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) until 2029, with the ultimate goal of phasing out all HCFCs by 2030.

HCFCs that are newly produced or imported (or ‰??virgin‰??) can only be used to service air conditioning, refrigeration and fire suppression equipment that was manufactured before 1 January of this year, the agency said in a final rule published in the Federal Register this week.

The measure also updates other requirements for controlling ozone-depleting substances (ODS).

Other updates, among others, in the rule include:

revising labelling requirements for containers of specific HCFCs;
banning the transfer of HCFC allowances allocated through this particular rule into those for HCFCs that have already been phased out; and
revising and removing certain recordkeeping and reporting requirements.

(KUTV) ‰?? The Utah National Guard's 85th Civil Support Team has been deployed at the request of Gov. Gary Herbert to Kennecott from a chemical leak caused by Wednesday morning's earthquake.

Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson says the situation is "stable."

More than 8,000 gallons of hydrochloric acid spilled during the earthquake, but crews were able to contain it, according to Unified Fire Authority.

A release of hydrochloric acid occurred at the refinery and not the Bingham Canyon Mine. As a precautionary measure, all employees were evacuated from the refinery. Unified Fire Authority in partnership with our Emergency Response Team has confirmed through remote inspection the release does not pose a risk to public safety.

With cleaning products flying off the shelves and people cleaning more due to the coronovirus, state and local fire officials want to make sure toxic vapor clouds don‰??t form in the kitchen or elsewhere.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak in late January, officials have not responded to any emergencies regarding people mixing the wrong cleaning products and succumbing to dangerous vapors.

This week happens to be National Poison Prevention Week.

‰??It is definitely a concern and one where we want people to be informed, to read labels and be careful to prevent any incidents,‰?? Jennifer Mieth, a spokeswoman for the state Fire Marshal‰??s office, said in an email Wednesday.

Mixing bleach or bleach-based products with other cleaning products can be deadly, officials said.

In November, the manager of a Buffalo Wild Wings in Burlington died from an accidental chemical exposure while cleaning the floor.

The worker used a bleach-based product not knowing an acid-based cleaner had spilled on the floor earlier.

State environmental regulators are investigating an unscheduled chemical release Monday evening at the NOVA Chemicals Olefins plant in Ascension Parish, officials said.

Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality officials and Ascension sheriff's deputies reported on Tuesday that they had received calls from the public Monday night about a possible plant fire somewhere in the parish's east bank industrial belt along the Mississippi River.

But DEQ officials said there was no fire but that NOVA Chemicals was routing the released chemicals to a ground flare. Those kinds of flares can create a large, low-level flame that lights up the nighttime horizon and low-hanging clouds.

The operator of a Commerce City oil refinery says it has shut down the facility after a malfunction that spewed a chemical byproduct into the surrounding community ‰?? the second such incident in recent months.

In a statement posted to social media, Suncor Energy said that the refinery, located just north of Denver city limits near the intersection of Brighton Boulevard and Interstate 270, experienced an "equipment malfunction" at around 5:40 p.m. today, March 17. The incident caused the release of catalyst, a clay-like substance used in the refining process.

"As a precautionary measure, we sounded a vapor release alarm and immediately initiated our response plan," the company's statement says. "The unit has been put in safe mode."
