In the upcoming ACS Philadelphia meeting in March, the ACS Colloid and Surface Science Division (COLL) is starting an initiative to build bridges between the industrial and academic communities. To this end, the COLL Division will sponsor the inaugural Industry/Academic Dialogue, focused on three topics:
1) Myths and Facts in Industrial R&D
2) Industry academic relationships: tapped and untapped potential
3) What drives a successful R&D career?
The Dialogue will be led by Dr. Gerard Baillely - VP Corporate Research and Development at Procter and Gamble, with a distinguished panel including Eric Kaler (President of the University of Minnesota), David Weitz (Professor of Physics, Harvard University), William Olbright (Program Director at the National Science Foundation), Huda A. Jerri. (Director, Material Science, Firmenich Inc.), and Wendy Cornell (IBM Research). The session will be moderated by Professor Kate Stebe (Univ. of Pennsylvania, COLL Division Chair) and Matt Lynch (Procter and Gamble, COLL Chair-Elect).
Each topic will start with 15-20 minutes overview, followed by perspectives from the panelists. Audience participation is very much encouraged.
Students, faculty, industrial, and government scientists are all encouraged to attend, participate, and contribute to the dialogue.
This event has the enthusiastic support of ACS President Luis Echegoyen and ACS President-Elect H. N. Cheng..
