CHAS listers,
This is a call for papers for the 2020 Central Regional Meeting. The meeting will take place on May 27-29 in Columbus, OH at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.
Details, including names and contact information for program and session chairs, can be found on the meeting website at http://www.cerm2020.org/. The final program summary will be published in C&EN in the Spring; the online
program will be available on April 13.
The meeting theme is “Envision Tomorrow’s Chemistry” and will highlight emerging chemical discoveries and advances as we enter the next decade. In addition to 33 technical symposia and poster sessions, the meeting will feature
1 plenary and 4 keynote lectures.
Of particular to this list serve is the symposium,
“New Approaches to Chemical Health and Safety”. We welcome contributions from both academic and non-academic institutions.
ACS's Meeting Abstracts Programming System (MAPS) opens on January 13 for abstracts. Please visit either the symposium website or MAPS at maps.acs.org, to submit an abstract. Abstracts are due March 2nd, 2020.
In addition to this symposium, I will be presenting a workshop on “Developing Instructional Safety Programs in Undergraduate Chemistry Programs”.
The abstract is:
This workshop will explore 1) the desirable context of undergraduate safety instruction, 2) methods and resources for program implementation, and 3) various rationales to convince faculty to develop good safety
instruction. Thus, participants will consider what to teach, how to teach it, and why to teach it. The goal is not to create a “one size fits all” instructional program, but to develop institution- and department-based programs from the array of options.
Since the development of good safety programs is often evolutionary in nature, long-term goals will be considered with the creation of phasing in programs over time.
The workshop does not yet appear on the CERM website.. But it will!
